No Scottish connection but then our DD has a Latin/Spanish name with none there either, it's just one we both like.
What character traits do you picture with this name? And Doug or Dougie?

Fantastic name, we would have had it on our list but it didn't go with our surname. For me it conjures up the image of one of my best friends who sadly died, he was a fascinating and brilliant man.

Douglas is an awesome name.

Kids I know with this name are often called Dougie pronounced doogie here.

Buntysoven · 29/08/2017 01:23

Love

Sophronia · 29/08/2017 02:20

Love it!

MissClimpsonsTypingBureau · 29/08/2017 04:54

I love it. I picture a middle aged lecturer (in a nice way!) Someone clever and kind and thoughtful.

Not too sure about Doug or Dougie though.

Sheitgeist · 29/08/2017 09:40

Love it. It was my dad's name, but most people called him Dougie (pronounced Doogie).

I think it's time for Douglas to have a revival!

Thurlow · 29/08/2017 09:42

We have a 10mo one. I wasn't to sure in it but it was a very important family name for DP, but it really suits him. Douglas does occasionally get a few funny looks, but Dougie - which we normally call him - always gets a good reaction.

grufallosfriend · 29/08/2017 09:44

Douglas or Doug is a great name.

I'm not keen on Dougie though

missanony · 29/08/2017 09:44

I like dougie but less keen on Hugless Douglas or Doug - what do you call a man with a spade?

EEandEmakes3 · 29/08/2017 09:57

It was my dad's name & will be my son's middle name. Smile

MammieBear · 29/08/2017 13:21

Good choice

Bat3 · 29/08/2017 13:26

I absolutely love this name. Was my first choice, but I had 2 girls. My grandad was called Douglas and I also had an amazing builder called Dougie when I renovated my first house. Both brilliant people. Go for it!

Grimmfebruary · 29/08/2017 13:28

Dougie is cute as a nn. Will grow with him.

I used to called my granda 'duckie' as a child instead of dougie though 😂

moggle · 29/08/2017 13:55

It's great and it's on our list too. I think Douglas suits all ages perhaps bar the very small, but Dougie is also seriously cute (i would pronounce it Duggee... like the CBeebies show... presume that wouldn't be an issue it's pretty inoffensive!).
I like Dougall too, for that I would pronounce Dougie Doogie.

starkid · 29/08/2017 15:40

I like it :)

n0ne · 29/08/2017 16:00

Love it!

ArcheryAnnie · 29/08/2017 16:04

I like it! Prefer the full "Douglas" to "Doug". Am much less keen on "Dougie".

grufallosfriend · 29/08/2017 16:25

I too like Douglas and Doug.

Dougie or Doogie aren't nice all.

LittleWitch · 29/08/2017 16:28

I know a baby Douglas. It's ok on a baby, better on a grown-up, which is how he will spend most of his life.

MsJuniper · 29/08/2017 16:53

I love Douglas and Dougie but in the end decided it was too Scottish to use without a connection.
