Thoughts?

DH loves it, I think of Quim!

What images does a lady called Quinn conjure up? I don't think I've ever met one! (Dr Quinn Medicine Woman?!)

DS wants to call her Baby Sister Little Girl 🙄

There was a Quinn in Glee. Blind, cheerleader. That's who I think of. But have no strong feelings.

rainbowterrier · 28/08/2017 23:40

I hear Quim too. Shame, because it's quite a nice name otherwise!

strong80 · 28/08/2017 23:42

my friends have a baby girl called quinn. i didn't like it to start with but think it's really lovely now.

SuburbanRhonda · 28/08/2017 23:43

People don't use the word quim much these days so I think it'll be fine.

Liadain · 29/08/2017 00:10

Harley Quinn comes to mind for me!
Or the Glee character, but she'll be forgotten soon enough - if she hasn't already.

Liadain · 29/08/2017 00:12

Tbqh it's also a very common surname in Ireland so I dislike it for that reason. We have a supermarket here called Superquinn.

There is also a disgraced billionaire called Sean Quinn, who's disliked by pretty much every Irish person.

igotyoubabe · 29/08/2017 16:47

What does quim mean?? 🤔

'The Mighty Quinn' was my automatic thought.

I had to google quim, never heard of it before.

CockPisssPartridge · 29/08/2017 17:45

I love Quinn. It would be on my list for another DD. Or Winter, I really love that name too at the moment.

blankface · 29/08/2017 17:52

I'd never use it for a girl, she'd be forever teased by kids calling her quim.

Fekko · 29/08/2017 17:54

'The mighty Quinn' for me too. I'm going to be humming that all night now.

DuggeeHugs · 29/08/2017 20:19

The Mighty Quinn, Dr Quinn and Niall Quinn (if she ever happens to be in the North East) are strong associations for me. I can't quite see it as a first name but, frankly, in a world where Khaleesi is allowed you should go with it if you like it!

DragonsandDungeons · 29/08/2017 20:22

I don't think people are very aware of quim. DP didn't know what it was, I only know due to scrabble 😂

Bobbiepin · 29/08/2017 20:23

Literally never heard the word Quim before.

There's a Quinn in one tree hill and she was awesome. I love the name and would use it if DH liked it.

daisypond · 29/08/2017 20:25

I think "quim", too.

grufallosfriend · 29/08/2017 22:20

I only know boys called Quinn. Sounds masculine like Finn.

No idea what quim is and doubt many youngsters do either.

RaininSummer · 29/08/2017 22:30

I assumed it was for a boy and loved it. Not sure for a girl but I think it would grow on me but I would expect the girl to be feisty, independent and tough for some reason.

Mellington · 29/08/2017 23:19

Reminiscent of a boy at public school getting called by his surname

Is it not quite standard practice to call people by their surname? DH still calls me by my maiden name, I still call friends by their maiden names?!

Seems people are as split as we are over Quinn as we are! Im still on the fence but less worried about the quim aspect now 😂

Never heard of "quim" but I'm in Australia.

I like Quinn. Reminds me of Harley Quinn and the Quinn on One Tree Hill.

harrietm87 · 30/08/2017 07:37

Bog standard Irish surname so never used as a first name here. Like calling a baby Smith. I don't understand the surname as first name trend at all - so many lovely first names to choose from.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 30/08/2017 07:39

First thought is quim too,so I don't like it.

RupertPsmith · 30/08/2017 21:03

I don't think many people know the term 'quim'. There's a scene in one the Avengers films when Loki calls Black Widow a 'mewling quim'. I think it sailed over most people's heads.

Fekko · 30/08/2017 21:05

I sink know but in true mumsnet style am too scared to google. I've been caught out before (dragon butter, blue waffles...).
