Too out there?

I'm quite traditional with names but also love quite 'out there' names.

Bump is a girl and will be called Emilia but we're torn between a traditional middle name or something a bit more 'interesting'.

So.... Emilia Louise or Emilia Persephone?

Most family members we've spoken to about it think that Persephone is a bit ridiculous but I can't let it go! It's not something I'd use as a first name but I love it.

What do you think?

Emilia Persephone is lovely!

early30smum · 25/08/2017 21:04

Emilia Persephone! So much more original and interesting. If you can't be a bit out there with MNs when can you?! My DD and DS have 2 middle names each, sometimes I wish we'd been more adventurous with them!

Another vote for Emilia Persephone! Emilia is quite popular now and having a more unusual middle would be good. Also Emilia Louise, whilst pretty is quite L heavy.

MrsEricBana · 25/08/2017 21:11

Yes!! Gorgeous.

FuzzyOwl · 25/08/2017 21:11

I really like it as well and think you can be far more adventurous with middles names. Besides, Persephone is a lovely name anyway.

BackforGood · 25/08/2017 21:12

Persephone certainly wouldn't be my choice, but, at least middle names don't get used much......

WonderingPerson · 25/08/2017 21:16

I'm pleased people don't think it's too ridiculous!

My own middle name is Jane and I was always desperate for a more interesting one.

My DH likes Seraphina or Pandora, both of which I love but I don't like the double 'A' sound at the end of both names - EmiliA SeraphinA.

I appreciate they're a little out there and won't be to everyone's taste! But as it's a middle name hoping I can be a bit more free.

I have an irrational hatred of Persephone.

So, Emilia Louise.

Emilia's a great name not biased at all Smile

MadameJosephine · 25/08/2017 21:20

Emilia Persephone is gorgeous, infinitely better than Louise for a middle name

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 25/08/2017 21:21

What about Emilia Seraphine instead of Seraphina?

SummerRoberts · 25/08/2017 21:22

Definitely Persephone. I'd use it as a first name. Love it.

Pixilicious · 25/08/2017 21:23

All of the 'out there' middle names you have suggested are ace.

DramaAlpaca · 25/08/2017 21:23

Emilia Persephone is lovely.

MaudAndOtherPoems · 25/08/2017 21:24

Persephone is (imo) the nicer name, but I wonder whether two four-syllable names is a bit much. I like Emilia Pandora.

WonderingPerson · 25/08/2017 21:25

@PelvicFloorClenchReminder that's lovely! It has a nice ring to it.

My mother's going to have to suck it up then! Out there middle name it is Smile

Is Persephone pronounced as it's spelt?

I thought Penelope was pronounced Pen E Lope as a teenager Grin.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 25/08/2017 21:25

Love Emilia Pandora !
I think you should go with Persephone, over Louise.

LEMtheoriginal · 25/08/2017 21:27

If I were to have another baby girl she would be called Persephone -i think it's a beautiful name and actually very traditional sounding. However I don't think it works as a middle name.

Emilia works better with shorter middle names I think. Emilia Jane?

Pepsioften100 · 25/08/2017 21:27

I actually think Emilia seraphine sounds better than Emilia Persephone. But yes still vote for one of these two over the Louise option. Smile

Jooni · 25/08/2017 21:29

Louise is a little bit dull and dated as a middle name IMO.

Emilia Persephone is long but very lovely. Emilia Seraphine is very pretty indeed. Go for it!

WonderingPerson · 25/08/2017 21:35

@Goingtobeawesome it's pronounced Per-se-fo-knee!

Persephone is a beautiful name and perfect as a middle name for Emilia. I think you can go to town a little bit with a middle name. (And actually I think it is nice as a first name anyway).

early30smum · 25/08/2017 21:37

I love Emilia Seraphina too!

MammieBear · 25/08/2017 21:38

Best not to tell them then they can't say anything, it's down to you and OH to pick pick name no one else Emilia Persephone is a good choice Wink

Enidblyton1 · 25/08/2017 21:41

I love Persephone - my friend used it as a first name for her DD.
Infinitely more exciting than Louise
