I don't know if this is a girl or boy but have a boy name.

Girl could be Meg, Rose, May or Ros/ Roselyn

Meg doesn't flow with our middle names. Can you suggest longer options with Meg as a given name please? (I love Megan, DH doesn't).

Thanks

Meg is the short form for Margaret, as pps have said, so if you don't want Margaret then perhaps you do need to choose another name? ( It is a bit like wanting Suzy but not wanting anyone to assume she is Suzanne) . Hearing "Meg" most people would assume her given name was Margaret, unless you are Welsh, where Megan, rather than Margaret tends to be the full name for girls called Meg. You don't want either given name, so I think you need to look elsewhere.

My Megan is mostly known as Megatron or Megalegs if they flow better Grin

Ooh Marguerite and Margarita lovely!

Megadeth

ABitOTT · 23/08/2017 23:47

My DD's name doesn't flow at all with her middle name, but as her middle name is rarely used, we decided it didn't matter. Better to have two names you love rather than compromising on names you're not so keen on.

Migraleve · 23/08/2017 23:57

It is a bit like wanting Suzy but not wanting anyone to assume she is Suzanne. I wouldn't assume a Suzy was a Suzanne or that a Meg was Margaret. If the parents introduced me to their child Meg, or Suzy, I would assume the child was called Meg, or Suzy.

Love Meg! Adding the suggestion of Magali.

MammieBear · 24/08/2017 07:31

Megenta is another possibility...

Ohyesiam · 24/08/2017 07:57

Op, I've been in all the situations you list above, and I've never used my full name.
Just call her Meg.

NapQueen · 24/08/2017 12:36

I want the full name to sound nice for when you need it in official situations - job interviews, exams, graduation, school register, medical appointments, church ceremonies, family tree

Id better warn my just Meg not to get herself into any of the above situations then Grin

GetOutOfMYGarden · 24/08/2017 12:39

Megara
Morgan
Meghana

blinkineckmum · 24/08/2017 14:04

NapQueen, I love just Meg, but it doesn't sound so nice with our middle name choice is all.

Lots of new ideas, thanks,
I agree that Margaret or Megan are best, but DH doesn't like Megan, and Margaret is MIL.

So I like Marguerite and Margarita. Or maybe I will just work on Megan. Or just have Meg!

But I don't think it's a problem to shorten a name. Just like most Matthews are 'Matt' and Kathryn are often 'Kate'. It's not unusual.

I was at school with a Meg and I'm pretty sure that was her full name, not an abbreviation. It's lovely on its own.

Glumglowworm · 24/08/2017 21:11

I really only like Megan of all the suggestions given. If you can't persuade DH to Megan then can you just go with Meg and rethink the middle name?

blinkineckmum · 24/08/2017 21:33

Yes, perhaps we wouldn't have a middle name at all (I only want one to honour family - Kathryn or Margaret). Thanks

Half the names on here don't lend themselves to be shorted ended Meg?! Madeleine is maddie surely? That's like having collette and shortening to Connie?! They're totally different. Meg is Megan or Margaret.

I'd just go with Meg! As for middle names you don't need to have one. My DDs have very traditional but pretty girls names and we struggled to get complimentary middle names do rather than cheapen their 'full name', neither have one. It's never an issue as no one uses middle names anyway!

blinkineckmum · 24/08/2017 22:04

I don't have a middle name either - it's just to honour family.

MikeUniformMike · 24/08/2017 22:05

That's easy. Margaret Kathryn Blinkineckmum, known as Meg.

Vegangelist · 24/08/2017 22:49

Megatron! Grin@ Warwick.

OnlyRose · 24/08/2017 22:55

Agree with Mike, if you were going to use Margaret as a middle name anyway, you could make that her first name and just always call her Meg.
But if you don't want to do that, Meg Kathryn sounds fine to me, both are lovely names.
