How do you pronounce this name? It's a character in a book I'm reading, and I have not come across it before.

Otto-leen

SuperBeagle · 23/08/2017 20:30

It's probably Otto-keen, but my instinct would be to say Otto-line (line rhyming with fine).

MikeUniformMike · 23/08/2017 21:00

I assumed it was Ottoline to rhyme with Caroline but Otto-leen makes sense.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 23/08/2017 21:16

Otto-leen, I like it, much nicer than Ottilie.

HoratioNightboy · 23/08/2017 21:29

The one I was at school with pronounced it Otto-leen. I think she was Dutch though.

Otto-leen

Otto-leen as in Ottoline Morrell whose house in Bedford Square I passed by for years.

I'm so glad you are checking. A friend told me about her friend, a health visitor, who was filling in for a colleague on a visit and didn't look at the paperwork first. The mum introduced her to her little baby boy "goo-ee". She said, "Gooey, what an unusual name. Where does it come from?" Mum says, "it was from a book I read. The character in it was called Gooey and I really liked it and decided if my baby was a boy, I'd name him after the character." Health visitor: "how do you spell it?" Mum: "G-U-Y"

Otto-leen would be correct

I think it was spam about earning £1000 a week. I didn't report but, thinking about it, I should have done. Looks like someone did.

RainbowdropsandUnicorns · 24/08/2017 20:54

Oh, right. Thanks for telling me, Finch82 Flowers
