Ada/Florence/Jessica/something else?

Hi, I'm 38 weeks pregnant and possibly needing to be induced for preeclampsia in the next few days, so really need to pin down some names. We've been discussing options since early pregnancy but struggling to choose, especially if baby is a girl.

For a boy I think we're settled on Corin, though we considered Nathaniel and Wilfred.

For a girl, DH likes Ada and Florence, which are both family names (on both sides incidentally!), I like them but am not completely in love with them. He also likes Jessica which is lovely but I'm worried is a bit too popular. In fact I'm sure that Ada and Florence are likely to be rising in popularity too as I hear them mentioned on here frequently. Other names we've considered are Caitlin, Elisabeth, Anna, Felicity and Alice.

I'd be very grateful for your thoughts wise ladies of MN!

I love girls names that start with F so Florence would be on my list..and Francesca is fab..shortened to 'ceska or fran when she is older. I also adore Fae/ Faye and Felicity ( Fliss) also Phoebe...I never realised I liked these names so much until you posted!!

MollyHuaCha · 20/08/2017 09:40

From your suggestions I really like Florence, Elisabeth, Anna, Felicity. By the way, if you choose Elisabeth, she will spend her life saying 'Elisabeth with an S'. This is not a reason not to choose it of course!

QueenNefertitty · 20/08/2017 09:42

Your list is almost exactly what I has in the event DS was a girl.

The name of my "imaginary girl" I think of often now he's here is Felicity- I think that's what I would have gone with.

All beautiful though- any of those would be lovely.

butternutsquashtime · 20/08/2017 09:45

For me Florence is quite a popular at the moment although I do like it a lot.

For me Ada is my girl name at the moment.

ThatsWotSheSaid · 20/08/2017 09:49

Ada is lovely. How about Isla?

SarahJonesS · 20/08/2017 10:14

I love Corin.

Jessica is more popular but I'd class it as more classic compared to Florence and Ada which will fall out of fashion over the next 10 years.

Felicity is lovely.

Other suggestions

Fleur
Cora
Clarice
Eliza
Imogen

Chaffinch4 · 20/08/2017 10:37

Corin is lovely. What about Corinne for a girl?

BewareOfTheToddler · 20/08/2017 10:45

Felicity is lovely, one of my favourite girls' names. Of the names you've suggested, the most popular in my area (SE), if it matters to you, are Florence and Alice.

I'm torn on Ada, part of me really likes it but it still sounds a bit old-lady to me. I think Florence has great potential for nicknames though.

I'd go for Felicity. Perhaps Felicity Anna? Or Felicity Ada?

Florence Ada or Florence Elizabeth would be my next choice. Jessica sounds a little bit dated to my ears now, I'd say it was less of a classic than names like Anna or Elizabeth.

Jooni · 20/08/2017 11:20

I like Anna, Elisabeth and Florence best of your girls' names, in that order. None are uncommon, but not are they super popular (though I do hear Florence a lot where I live).

How about Jessamy or Jessamine instead of Jessica? You might also like:

Constance
Anais
Cecily
Ida
Dorothy
Susannah
Clementine
Catrin
Emmeline

Love all your names! Great choices. From your lists, for boys my absolute favourite is Wilfred, for girls from your list I'd go for Florence.

Kazzawazza69 · 20/08/2017 11:58

My favourites from your list are Caitlin, Felicity and Alice.

Thank you so much everyone!

Molly - the "elisabeth with an s" thing is what worries us slightly, but I just think it's so much prettier than with a z. My mum has a name with multiple common spellings and she's always had to spell it out, she says it's never bothered her but I know for lots it can be irritating.

I also completely agree with what you're all saying about the popularity of Florence and even Ada, and that although they're both quite common old lady names, their current revival may date quite quickly.

Chaffinch I do like Corinne for a girl, but I think I like Corin for a boy too much to never be able to use it if we had a son in future.

Thank you all for your suggestions too, it really is tricky, it's such a huge responsibility to choose a name! I will spend the next hours (or days!) in hospital trying to work out what we like best, and failing that, will just have to see what baby looks like when he/she arrives and hope that makes things clearer!

Thanks again Smile

Felicity (nn Lissie) and Thea are our top two grills names, so pretty!

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 20/08/2017 19:40

I really love Anna, timeless and classic.
I also like Jessica.

Mummaofboys · 20/08/2017 19:45

I love Jessica and Felicity I don't think they are that popular these days? I'm not keen on Alice but only because it's so popular three friends have Alice children.

MammieBear · 21/08/2017 07:47

Jessamine
Rebecca
Adelaide (can give you Ada)

Abbyll · 21/08/2017 08:03

I have a florence and everybody comments on how nice her name is. And I know florence's of all generations.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 21/08/2017 10:44

Lovely names, hard to pick one, how about Anna Florence?

Hardly ever hear of an Alice these days which is a shame.

pilates · 21/08/2017 19:25

Jessica Ada is very nice

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 21/08/2017 20:18
