Jude or Elwood?

Hello Lovely Ladies, I was hoping for some opinions on the following names, DD has quite an unusual name, but I always get the response "what a pretty name".
So I want a name that has a similar impact on people.
Jude Alexander: we love this name however it seems to be coming a very popular name which is what worries me as I don't want a name that is too popular.

Elwood George: This we do love as we are big fans of the Blues Brothers, its different but still quite classy sounding. Also I quite like the Idea of Woody as a nickname, however I'm worried this name is a little too "out there"

Opinions welcome x

Jude, but I'm biased because I have one Grin

He's the only one I know.

Hey MrsC2012x did you call your son Elwood? I ask because my son is Elwood we call him Woody for short and I FRICKIN’ LOVE IT (suck on that haters) he’s two and a half now and I’ve never met another. I had another son on the 22nd August so feel your pain when trying to find a name xxx

dementedma · 29/10/2017 21:24

I love Jude and have yet to meet one here in Scotland so not common in this part of the world.

SumAndSubstance · 29/10/2017 21:46

I used to know a chap called Elwood. He must be nearly 70 now. He was super cool. I always thought his name was unusual, but I liked it. Jude's nice too, but Elwood is cooler.

MrsC2012x · 29/10/2017 21:54

Our very good Friends had their baby a few weeks ago and called him Edward, so we didn't feel we could use Elwood as their names would be too similar. Our Beautiful bundle of Lovliness was born on Wednesday and we named him Jude Alexander which suits him perfectly, we have had nothing but positive comments about his name Smile

HUMUNGOUS congratulations! Beautiful name xxx

AnyaMoondial · 30/10/2017 01:30

Yes, congratulations! How wonderful!

ContessaBonessa · 30/10/2017 01:33

Many congratulations, Jude Alexander is a gorgeous name.

ContessaBonessa · 30/10/2017 01:34

(and far superior to any woody related names)

MargueriteCuivreble · 30/10/2017 08:21

Why on earth would you say that CountessaBonessa after I’d just written my darling son was named Woody? Ouch!

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 30/10/2017 08:28

Well, it appears I stand alone on this one, but I really like Elwood/Woody.
Jude wouldn't be my choice.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 30/10/2017 08:30

Many congratulations OP 💐💙

ContessaBonessa · 30/10/2017 09:17

I'm sorry Marguerite. I only scanned the thread and didn't see your comment. I have no doubt your son is a beaut and suits his name perfectly! 👶🏻 💐

MrsC2012x · 03/04/2018 00:52

Mbb1
I have just read your comment back after all this time and wow! You really should just keep scrolling if you think something you see is dreadful! Angry

My Beautiful JUDE! Has a name everybody loves, and people actually come up to me to tell me how much they love his name.

Next time maybe keep less positive comments in your thoughts and not your typing fingers!

I definitely prefer Jude to Elwood. I don't think Jude is going to become too popular, I can't see it in the top 20 anyway. Jude is quite a good name in that it'd be hard to judge what a Jude is like...they could be sporty, nerdy, loud, quiet....anything.
Elwood, honestly it sounds like a nursing home or council estate to me, it's an unusual name, and means something to you, which is great....but It's not as nice as Jude is (in my opinion).

Elphabaisnotwicked · 03/04/2018 01:05

I know baby is named now Smile my first thoughts on Elwood was the main charcter in Legally Blonde, I'm sure she was called Elle Wood

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 03/04/2018 07:46

Elwood George.

Ki0612 · 03/04/2018 07:59

I was also thinking legally blond for Elwood!

Much prefer Jude.

Wailywailywaily · 03/04/2018 08:13

I have an eight year old Jude, I know it’s supposed to be getting very popular but we have never come across another one. Funnily enough his older brother was the only one who asked why we had given him a girls name but then he thought Jude Law is a woman Grin. The worst reactions we had to Jude were in Italy where they immediately equate it to Judas. In Ireland though they relate the name to St Jude the patron saint of lost causes so there is no predicting these things really Hmm.

Plodgarella · 03/04/2018 08:24

Elwood! Love it. Couldn't persuade DH to go for it but then we had girls instead so never got to use it anyway!
I don't know any Judes or Elwoods so it's so that common where I am.
Jude is a safer bet but Elwood is very cool. I've been a massive BB fan since I was far too young to have been allowed to watch it

MarcellaBackland · 03/04/2018 08:33

I do not prefer Elwood. Strongly. Jude is nice enough.

With respect, you seem very concerned about what other people will think of your child's name. For us it was important to choose a name that we loved and that was meaningful to us --within reason, of course. I do not prefer Elwood but it's not like someone naming their kid say, Shitfuck, or Lasagna, or Nude. I understand canvassing opinions, especially to find out if there are some weird associations with the name that you haven't thought of, but I don't think other people's opinions (especially strangers) should be the primary consideration.

Also you seem unfamiliar with the tone of MN. It's odd to come and criticise when clearly you never read posts other than your own -- and almost a year later!

Veterinari · 03/04/2018 09:07

MrsC If you only want positive comments then why are you asking strangers on the internet what they think? That’s not really how the baby name boards work. Posters here will give you honest opinions, some of which you might not like, but which are a reflection of the public responses to a name.

If you only want positive feedback on your choices, ask your friends!
Congrats on your DS

LadyPug · 03/04/2018 10:43

I don’t get what the issue is with Elwood at all, it’s a lovely name! Honestly, people will find a fault with any name if you listen to them. Too common, too chavvy, too yoonique etc. I have to admit I really like
Jude too but have heard quite a few, never met an Elwood!

LadyPug · 03/04/2018 10:44

Sorry! Only just realised its an old thread! Congrats op, lovely name! X
