We like the following but can others think of nice names ending in 'a' or 'r'?

Boys names ending in R

Thanks. I quite like Sasha but I know some see it as a girls' name.

I like Alexander but it would be shortened and we would lose the 'r' ending.

I am mulling over Casper as I can't decide what I think of it. I might quite like it.

Love Oscar!

Peter?

CurrentlyNothing · 20/08/2017 09:09

I do really like Peter. But it's like Alexander. I would live in fear that it would become Pete.

Another vote for Asher. It's Biblical (one of the 12 sons of Jacob) and Biblical names are still very acceptable.

Traditionally it's pronounced Ay (as in 'hay') - sher.

(I actually had a great-uncle-by-marriage called Asher.)

Elijah
Elisha

Asher is interesting. I need to think about it more, as I need to think about Casper, but I think I might like it.

Also really like Hector. Maybe also Fraser.

Oliver
Timor
Tibur or Tiber

Yika · 20/08/2017 12:56

I've always pronounced Asher as it looks - with a hard A as in Ash.

PattyPenguin · 20/08/2017 13:23

Definitely pronounced ay-sher in my family, and I presume that was on the basis of what family members heard. My great-uncle was born in Maindee, Newport, Gwent (then Monmouthshire) in 1884.

However the Oxford dictionary site and US sources all give the ash-er pronunciation.
