Does nobody like the name Cora?

Every time I mention it to people IRL as one of my favourite names they pull an 'errrr' face haha. Have also noticed online it doesn't get the best reception.

I just think it's cute and compact!

If you dislike it are there negative connotations I wasn't aware of or is it the sound of it that grates on you? Grin

I love it and it was on my list. The only reason it was crossed off was my surname begins with A.

okilydokily · 19/08/2017 21:24

Prefer Cora to Nora or Dora. I think it's sweet!

TheLegendOfBeans · 19/08/2017 21:24

I'm sorry - my friend had two Jack Russell's when she was little called Todd & Cora.

Association will therefore last forever xx

SkyUnicorn · 19/08/2017 21:24

It's a chain of supermarkets in France...

SoftlyCatchyMonkey1 · 19/08/2017 21:25

Cora is a lovely name. One of the best books I've ever read "the last of the Mohicans" (a million times better than the film) has Cora in it. Love it.

LockedOutOfMN · 19/08/2017 21:27

I really like the name Cora. It makes me think of Coram's Fields.

grasspigeons · 19/08/2017 21:28

I think it's sweet.

lifeisazebracrossing · 19/08/2017 21:33

It's lovely.

Badhairday1001 · 19/08/2017 21:34

I love it! Also love Coral and Rosa.

Whataboutus · 20/08/2017 07:58

It's horrible, old fashioned and harsh sounding. Slightly better than Nora but not much.

CakeRattleandRoll · 20/08/2017 16:07

Lovely name.

PunkAssMoFo · 20/08/2017 17:47

I know a couple of under 5's with the name. I don't really like the 'core' sound.

wowsaidtheowl · 21/08/2017 21:38

I love it! Stop telling people and just go for it!

nooka · 22/08/2017 05:24

It makes me think of the super cool character from Tron Legacy, although she was apparently Quorra (sounded like Cora though). Feels cook and quirky to me, more like Nina than Nora (which feels dated and makes me think 'bloody Nora', Dora will always be the Explorer to me).

ChocolateRicecake · 22/08/2017 15:10

I like it a lot.

TonicAndTonic · 22/08/2017 17:25

I don't hate it, but agree with others on here that Cara is much nicer.

ApplesTheHare · 23/08/2017 20:43

I think Cora's a lovely name.

Think you're onto something op though when you mention the difference between opinions online and in person. We have a Sylvie and IRL people are always confused and ask for it to be repeated, whereas it seems to get suggested a lot online. I wonder if it's the difference in seeing/hearing certain names?

WaitrosePigeon · 24/08/2017 01:17

Cora is adorable!

stellarfox · 24/08/2017 17:42

It's one of my favourite names that I would definitely consider using. It's classic, beautiful and well known but not too popular (although I've seen it around quite a lot lately!) I first remember hearing it watching Titanic as it was the little girl's name that Jack dances with
