Does nobody like the name Cora?

Every time I mention it to people IRL as one of my favourite names they pull an 'errrr' face haha. Have also noticed online it doesn't get the best reception.

I just think it's cute and compact!

If you dislike it are there negative connotations I wasn't aware of or is it the sound of it that grates on you? Grin

Love it! Considered it but having a boy!

Decaffstilltastesweird · 18/08/2017 19:15

I like it a lot. It's on my long list for dc2 if it's a girl. The apple core thing has occurred to me though.

emimayb · 18/08/2017 19:16

It's top of my list, just love it, discovered last night that he doesn't like it at all - I think I've got my work cut out to get my way

frogsoup · 18/08/2017 19:19

It was in our top 3! Lovely name.

officerhinrika · 18/08/2017 19:29

Reminds me of the Palliser novels, Lady Glencora was called Cora for short and yes I like it too.

LouMumsnet · 18/08/2017 22:20

Ooh, I love Cora. I didn't really hear of it, until after DD was born, which was a shame, although she has a lovely name too!

It's reminds me of Lady Cora Crawley from Downton Abbey so I reckon it sounds all aristo and posh (in a good way).

MiniMaxi · 19/08/2017 11:03

I like it!

Mrskeats · 19/08/2017 11:07

Love it
Downton Abbey for me too

ShowOfHands · 19/08/2017 11:17

Effie Grin

DH's name is the noise a washing machine makes apparently.

Cora is pleasant enough. Sounds a bit East End landlady in a pinny. Probably in a Beryl Bainbridge novel.

Joinourclub · 19/08/2017 11:24

Nice enough, I do prefer Cara though,

squoosh · 19/08/2017 13:20

Lots of older Irish women called Cora. No idea why it was so popular, some religious connection no doubt.

firawla · 19/08/2017 13:27

I really like it, and Nora. Don't mind Dora either although that one is a bit Dora the explorer

MsJuniper · 19/08/2017 13:30

Love Cora (and Nora) but not Dora so much. DH has an aunt called Cora and she is very impressive.

IsadoraQuagmire · 19/08/2017 13:51

It's a lovely name.

Consideringbeingamom · 19/08/2017 13:54

It's lovely! I met a lady at my gym/spa a few times named Cora, of Irish descent-she was gorgeous!

LottieDoubtie · 19/08/2017 13:56

I really like it!

I have a baby niece who is Cora
Both she and her name are lovely Smile

SwedishEdith · 19/08/2017 14:00

I like it. It's Last of the Mohicans for me and Daniel Day-Lewis saying, "I will find you".

AmysTiara · 19/08/2017 14:04

I dislike Nora and Dora but i really like Cora which is weird.

However I do like Coral better. That's a lovely name.

Mammadragon · 19/08/2017 14:40

Not sure if that is a laugh or a smile ShowOfHands

No idea what name sounds like a washing machine...swish? Swash?...Josh?

ShowOfHands · 19/08/2017 15:19

A wry smile. Love the name Effie but I will now think of it whenever I attempt to heft myself off a beanbag.

DH is a Joshua.

fionadal · 19/08/2017 21:18

I like Cora, but love Cara

Mol1628 · 19/08/2017 21:22

I love Cora. Go for it if you like it :)

Marcipex · 19/08/2017 21:22

I think of a chewed-up apple too, sorry. And a large landlady in a pinny, like Nora Batty.
Coral is nicer, and so is Coralie.,
