Precisely that are the names Aiden and Adelade (poss spellings Adelade, Adelaide, Adelheid) too similar?

Already have an Aiden/Aidie, would use Heidi for nn

I think they are a bit similar

Imnotatypicalsausage · 17/08/2017 19:57

Definitely too similar.

But Aiden and Heidi is nice

BuzzKillington · 17/08/2017 19:58

Too similar.

Sophronia · 17/08/2017 20:31

I think they're too similar. I've also never seen it spelled Adelade, only Adelaide.

PaganGoddessBrigid · 17/08/2017 20:34

Aidan and Heidi work but Aiden and Adelaide would be like two kittens

SuperBeagle · 17/08/2017 20:37

Aiden and Adelaide are too similar.

Also, no idea what "Adelade" is.

Heidi also isn't a shortening for Adelaide. It's a completely different name.

Gaggleofgirls · 17/08/2017 20:49

They're just different spellings (as found on Mothercare site).

Heidi is originally a nickname for Adelheid, the German form of the name but pronounced the same.

Thanks though, not sure about Heidi with our surname although I like it. It would sound similar to Heidi Molly, what do you think? Too 'ee' 'ee' sounding?

Please not Adelade- that's not a name.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 17/08/2017 22:28

Heidi is lovely, Heidi Molly is fine.
Aiden and Heidi, great !

Floellabella · 17/08/2017 22:43

Even if there is a good rationale there's no way your child will end up with Heidi as a nn if you call her Adelaide Im afraid. Heidi is seen as a standalone name even if the history books say otherwise. No one would think of it and they'd just wonder why you called her s different name to her s risk name. Adelaide is too similar to Aiden, and the spelling adelade is just incorrect/youneeq.

Aiden and Heidi works very well and Heidi Molly (or similar) is absolutely fine. Lovely!

DramaAlpaca · 17/08/2017 22:53

I don't find them too similar or matchy at all.

I'd go for the Adelaide spelling, although Adelheid would make more sense if you want to use Heidi day to day as that's the name Heidi came from originally.

theancientmarinader · 17/08/2017 23:04

If you are planning on using Aidie and Heidi routinely, it might be a bit weird, but if you are using full names then Aiden and Adelaide is fine.

We (through events other than picking baby names) ended up with two teenagers called Oliver and Olivia. Nobody died. IRL no one really seemed to notice it could be odd unless we pointed it out, and even then they were a bit, oh, yeah. Huh. As if it were so ordinary it was strange for us to mention it.

greenmelon · 17/08/2017 23:08

Sorry but I hate the name Adelaide and Heidi is definitely not a nn for it. Heidi on its own however is sweet and goes well with Aiden. Unless of course the nn is Aidie!

How about Anna/Annabelle instead?

Loyly · 17/08/2017 23:23

Adelheid, the German form of the name but pronounced the same.

Adelheid is pronounced as AAH-del-Hide. It isn't the same pronunciation as Adelaide.

Alisvolatpropiis · 17/08/2017 23:44

Definitely too similar.
