DP & I have massively different tastes in names

I have 3 DC who all have what I would call 'proper' names, not massively traditional and not very common but all real names who everyone knows and who people will always know how to spell

DP has 1 DC who has a very modern name which IMO is very of its time iyswim

Now we're having a baby together and we cannot agree on a single name or even on a style of name - I'm slowly going insane

I know it's a big ask but can anyone suggest any names that tick both boxes?

So far he's said no to -
Thomas
Reuben
Jasper
Ferne
Erica
Alba

So far I've said no to -
Jackson
Ronnie
Reggie
Emme
Lola

Help!!!

I'm 100% with you guy on the NN/FN thing- does he not see going with his choice of shortened name day to day but using the full name on the birth certificate is a compromise?

I like your choice of names I must admit xx
Perhaps you can print out some lists and highlight ones you like in different coloured pens then see if there's any doubles!

I don't think your styles are particularly different tbh. I'd put Cameron with names like Riley and Jackson, and Alba and Lola are both very 'now'.

we both quite like Violet, Erin & Sadie from earlier suggestions

One of those is my DD's name! And one of the others was on our list. We had similar problems not that dp liked similar names to your dp, but he wanted more out there names.

Our others on both our approved list:
Girls
Florence
Esme
Matilda
Felicity
Betty

Boys
Elijah
Dexter
Edson
Nico (although he preferred this for a girl)
Ellis (as above)

Sure we had more, but can't think!!

I think it would be reasonable, if the actual name used is going to be the short form that he likes, that he compromises on the full name on the bc. Insisting it's eg Eddie and nothing else is quite petty really - ok it wouldn't necessarily be his choice but the child will be called what he likes and all the full name does is give more options, so I think he really should be compromising there.

On the subject of those kind of boy names, how about Roddy?

early30smum · 17/08/2017 23:08

How are you getting on, OP?

Mineshalfamilkstout · 17/08/2017 23:17

Cormac for a boy.

Mineshalfamilkstout · 17/08/2017 23:18

Lois for a girl?

kingfishergreen · 17/08/2017 23:19

Max for a boy, everyone likes the name Max!

nooka · 18/08/2017 00:11

How about something like Stanley? Traditional to suit you but with the more nicknames vibe that he seems to like. I'm guessing that he is saying no to say Alfred as opposed to Alfie so that you can't call your son the more formal name and him the diminutive?
