Uncommon baby name help

Baby is due soon and we're struggling with names. I don't want a very common name where there are 2 or more kids with the same name in their class, but not something too tricky to spell/say/too out there. We have a fairly common two syllable surname so have mostly been looking at longer first names.

Boy names:
Dylan (too common?)
Caspian (too out there?)
Finnian
Cassian

Girls names:
Avalyn
Riona (my fave, DH less keen)
Alicia
Natalia
Lorena

All opinions welcome or alternative suggestions!

I like Caspian the most. I think it may get misheard as Casper though, so be wary of that.

Not a huge fan of 'lyn' names.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 13/08/2017 18:15

From your list, I'd choose Caspian and Riona.

Coey2016 · 13/08/2017 18:16

I like Dylan but it is quite popular at least where I am. My favourite of the girls names is Natalia, I think it's pretty & unusual.

AmyOb · 13/08/2017 18:18

Congratulations on your baby. Here are some names that I felt was uncommon. Hope it helps;
Girl names
Allura, Bliss, Amaryllis,Dunia,Elspeth,Odelia,Verity, Zyra, Anya,Zadie,Inola
Boy Names
Abner, Aero, Arkin,Arlen, Tavish, Zyron, Theo,Yale,Zane

Saucysausages · 13/08/2017 18:19

I like 'lyn' names
They're quite American but never heard one here
Eg
Adalynn
Braelynn

Glumglowworm · 13/08/2017 18:22

While there may be no other Finnions in the class, it's highly likely there will be Finn/Finley/Finlay

I like Dylan or Caspian of you boys names

I've never heard of Riona but I kind of like it. Does it sound like Fiona?

Kazzawazza69 · 13/08/2017 19:20

I have a nearly 3 year old Dylan and I only know one other Dylan who is about 8(?) so I'm not sure it's as common as you think?

I really like Caspian and I quite like Finnian (although I have an irrational dislike of Finn). Cassias not so much.

For girls names Natalia is the best on your list by miles. It's really pretty.

early30smum · 13/08/2017 19:23

Love all the boys names. From the girls, I like Natalia but not the others.

Brighteyes27 · 13/08/2017 19:32

The boys names are all awful out of the girls names possibly Alicia.
I don't know what your surname is or what part of the world you live but I have had work colleagues and friends who have chosen names that are less common many have regretted it as there children got older and could articulate how upset they were by there name the name there parents loved as other kids make fun of them about it.

17caterpillars1mouse · 13/08/2017 19:42

I like Caspian and Dillon (this spelling) from Your boys list

I like Natalia from your girls

I think Riona is ugly sorry

RiverTam · 13/08/2017 19:45

Cassian (is this Diego Luna's character in Rogue One?)
Natalia

TroysMammy · 13/08/2017 19:49

Ramona, my favourite childhood book and Troy after my beautiful, special cat. Go on OP, name your baby after my cat, he was gorgeous.

NerrSnerr · 13/08/2017 19:58

I like Finnion and Natalia.

Bloody love pp's suggestion of Ramona.

turtletum · 13/08/2017 20:40

Thanks all - really helpful. I do really like Dylan and Caspian and Dylan may not be too common, yay. I wasn't sure about Finnian/Finn and you've helped rule that out. No one seems keen on Cassian? Yes it is also used in Rogue One but didn't make the connection until I rewatched the film the other week, not so sure on it now.

Girls names proving more tricky. I love Riona, I'd pronounce it as in Fiona although it does have other variations, but dh has now said he hates the name. We both quite like Natalia and Alicia but not sure we love either enough?

Other thoughts for girl names:
Felia/Ophelia
Nerissa
Adalyn
Saskia

Are these hideous/pretentious or nice? I secretly like Nerissa but not sure if its too out there?

I quite like Ramona...will run that past dh.

Similar style

Cassius
Miles
Keir
Marcus

Amarys
Maura
Mara
Meredith

WaxOnFeckOff · 13/08/2017 20:42

Just seen your update, Saskia is nice and maybe Vanessa rather than Narissa? Audra/Audrey? Julia/Juliet?

RiverTam · 13/08/2017 20:54

Oh, I like the name Cassian, Rogue One is the Best Star Wars Film Ever â„¢ and Cassian is a great character!

I life Ofelia, which in my head I pronounce Ofaylia rather than Ophelia pronounced Opheelia, but that might just be me and I daresay she'd spend a lifetime correcting either spelling or pronunciation so ignore me.

early30smum · 13/08/2017 21:25

LOVE Saskia. Was on our list for DD.

Yika · 13/08/2017 21:40

Nerissa is lovely.
I also like Adalyn or Avalyn

What about
Rina
Naia
Merryn
Maren

I find Caspian a bit fanciful but it's a nice name and not complicated to spell or pronounce so why not?

Others maybe
Gaspard
Corin
Balthazar
Orlando

Sophronia · 14/08/2017 01:05

How about Fabian or Florian?

Threeandabit · 14/08/2017 19:11

What about Rona? It means "My joy"

I like Finnian and Dylan, and Saskia.

whosahappyharry · 14/08/2017 19:30

I know a baby Adalyn, spelled Addelyn. Gets called Addie most of the time. I think it's really pretty, and actually think the Adalyn spelling is much nicer.

SerfTerf · 14/08/2017 19:32

Fuschia or Emil

SerfTerf · 14/08/2017 19:33

(Avalyn and Adalyn sound like something from a country and western song.)

MikeUniformMike · 14/08/2017 20:16

How do you pronounce Avalyn? I think it looks like Avalon.
