Hi,
Do you think Ryan is an old, dated name that is boring and too common? I am due in October but still haven't found a name? I need to find a name that in-laws, friends and family in Iran can say easily. The only international name that we came across that we like the meaning too is Ryan. However, I just noticed that the name has been over used snd it's too common. I don't want such a name for my son. What is your idea? Also, what do you think of the name aryo or Borna? They are not English but we like them too. Please help me I'm kind of desperate!

I think Ryan is a great name, it isn't too popular, so don't worry about that. It also works internationally, so that's a bonus !
I would definitely use it.😄
I like Aryo, but not Borna.

Jooni · 12/08/2017 15:47

I don't know any little Ryans, and I have a 2 year old and a 2 month old so we meet a lot of young children. I think it has been more popular in the past but certainly doesn't seem so now.

Aryo is a cool name, I've not heard it before but it sounds like Arlo and Arya so feels very current while still being unusual itself. Borna I'm less keen on.

How about Adam, Kian/Kiran, Danyal/Daniel, Sam, Zak for international boy names?

Rian is Irish for Ryan..rhymes with Ian . Think its lovely.

marcusb · 12/08/2017 15:51

Try Marcus ? it should be easy to pronounce for your Iranian side.

Lozmatoz · 12/08/2017 16:48

Ryan is very dated in the U.K. Go for what you love! Everyone pronounces my name wrongly, but I wouldn't swap it!

PaperdollCartoon · 12/08/2017 16:52

I like Aryo! Sounds like it would work here and internationally. I think Ryan is a bit boring and honestly my first thought is it's a bit common (lower class meaning rather than popular)

Dixiestamp · 12/08/2017 21:40

'Common..lower class', Paperdoll? Way to go insulting all the people with Ryans (which, incidentally, I don't but I know plenty)!!
Am liking Aryo, OP.

BewareOfTheToddler · 12/08/2017 22:16

I think Ryan does sound a bit dated in that I associate it with former schoolmates (there were several in my class) from the 1980s. If you really like it, you should use it though!

Some of the alternatives suggested above sound nicer such as Sam/Zack.

Aryo is also really nice!

MammieBear · 13/08/2017 20:22

It's actually a biblical name so I'd say it's fairly dated already Wink but that shouldn't put you off the name you love, Aryo over Borna or how about Adam (good in all languages)

Freeme84 · 15/08/2017 17:17

Thanks for your comment. Adam is quite an unusual name in Iran.

Thanks for your suggestion. That's what I was thinking too.

Thanks for that. I know exactly what you mean and that's why I asked about.
