Hello!

Just after some thoughts about the name 'Sienna':

  • Do you like it?
  • Is it becoming very popular?
  • Any ideas as to how we might shorten it/a nickname?

We're looking for a girls name that is different but not very, very unusual.

Thanks 😊 x

It was 26th girls name on the ONS list in 2015, so very popular in the country as a whole. That said, I don't know of many round here.

I don't like it that much, but that's totally personal preference.

No sure how you'd shorten it - Sea?

I like the name Sienna as it sounds pretty.

Then I think of the actress Sienna Miller and it totally puts me off!

But that's just me.

Choccyhobnob · 08/08/2017 15:57

I know one spelled Siena (after the city rather that Sienna the colour) and I quite like it. She is 3. Not shortened that I'm aware of.

Mclaren37 · 08/08/2017 16:46

Hmm it's nice but I don't love it. I think it became a bit too common like Scarlet or Ruby. But it is pretty.

Gorgeous name. Heard of 2, so not too many.

I don't understand this ONS. The most popular name. I know is April.
I've yet to be out and about Without hearing a mum calling out "April".
Yet its not in the top 100 names. Very
baffling.
Sorry for waffling on.
Potential nns
Si-Si
Sia.
Enna.
Ennie.

Sienna miller ruined it a bit I think :( to be honest it doesn't really speak to me - I can't picture what a Sienna would be like. Isn't v pretty pretty, isnt v strong, not historical etc - maybe that's a good thing as your DC can make it what she wants :)

Thanks for your thoughts so far. 'Gabriella' is the other name that we like, so please feel free to share your opinions about this too! 😊 x

It's quite trendy and I think it will sound dated in a few years. I prefer Gabriella.

AmyOb · 09/08/2017 00:29

I think Sienna is much uncommon than 'Gabriella' and its much nicer too.

Sophronia · 09/08/2017 02:35

Sienna is #26 in the name charts and Gabriella is #136, so Sienna is a lot more popular.

Starfish83 · 09/08/2017 18:28

Bump (just in case there are any more thoughts!) 😊 x

I know 1 but sienna Miller puts me off it

2014newme · 09/08/2017 18:34

Gabriella much better although I dislike Gabby

Puggsville · 09/08/2017 18:35

I think it's rather pretty.
I don't get this MN thingy about needing a nickname. Both DD and I have 3 syllable names and don't shorten them.

Marie541 · 14/08/2017 00:47

I have a 1 year old daughter called Sienna. Since having her I have heard of a few more but I would say it's pretty uncommon. I always get lovely comments when people hear her name. I liked the fact that you can't really shorten the name, although I have been known to call her 'Sienn' on occasion :) My friend sometimes calls her 'See' too. I'm pregnant with another girl and struggling again to pick a name, my favourite at the moment is Keira or Skye.
