Alexandra Margaret?

Hi everyone! I'm new here so sorry if I post this wrong but just wanted a general opinion on the girls name:

Alexandra Margaret

Our surname is 3 syllables, begins with O and is very uncommon. Not sure whether name is a bit of a mouthful?

We're quite set on using Margaret as a middle name as it's the name of my grandma (who I've always been very close to) but am aware that it's not very 'trendy'.

I love classic names and like most people on here am trying to avoid having an overly popular name (otherwise LOVE Amelie though).

Just looking for general opinions really!

It's cute.

I've always liked Margaret/Maggie as a name. Alexandra is classic.

parrotseatemall · 07/08/2017 15:23

You don't meet a lot of baby Alexandras these days. It's a very good name.

Do you expect to shorten it? If so, what nickname do you like?

TuddlesAndSisses · 07/08/2017 15:27

Really like it!

KingJoffreysRestingCuntface · 07/08/2017 15:28

Why isn't Alexanne a name?

It's really pretty. Has a kind of Jane Austen travels to the future vibe.

mateysmum · 07/08/2017 15:28

It's quite long, but flows nicely. Lovely and traditional and at the moment quite "unique". Go for it.

a1mary · 07/08/2017 15:29

Ah thank you! I originally loved Evelyn, Darcy and Lydia but am aware they've all risen quite a bit popularity wise!

She'd probably end up being shortened to Alex which I don't mind - I quite like it on a girl! I do love Alexandra as the whole name though but I'm sure she can choose that when she's older!

I like it (especially Margaret) but I have to say I prefer Amelie and Evelyn. I don't meet many of either so they don't feel overly popular to me.

a1mary · 07/08/2017 16:08

I see, I just figured Amelie especially would date more due to it shooting up in the popularity rankings (same ilk as Amelia etc). It's not completely out of the running though - just Alexandra feels more classic and timeless.

Opinions on nickname Ally/Allie for Alexandra? I personally like it but not sure that's a universal opinion Confused

Ali/Ally/Allie is fine.
Alex is great, Sandy too. I don't like Lexi.

TurquoiseOwl · 07/08/2017 17:50

Very frumpy, IMHO. I don't like it at all.

TurquoiseOwl · 07/08/2017 17:51

I love Darcy ❤️

Imnotatypicalsausage · 07/08/2017 18:43

Alexandra Margaret is a fabulous and classic name. Don't worry about your last name and don't be lured by Amelie and Evelyn, which are both very of the moment.

Lucifersangel · 07/08/2017 19:15

How is Evelyn 'of the moment?' My 100 great grandma is called Evelyn and my 70 year old nanna🙈

I would chose either Evelyn of Alexandra...although I don't like the shortenings Evie and Alex that much

TurquoiseOwl · 07/08/2017 19:20

@Lucifersangel - I suppose another example is Theodore and Violet are very 'of the moment' but in reality are very old names.

Lucifersangel · 07/08/2017 19:25

I see what you mean, maybe it's the wording. To me 'of the moment' names are more like Ava and Aria, names that haven't really surged in popularity before.Wheras Evelyn and Theodore are more classics that come in and out of popularity

Bubblesoup · 07/08/2017 19:35

Alexandra Margaret is beautiful! And I love all of the nickname options. I call my sister Ali so I love that nickname too!

Ledehe · 07/08/2017 19:36

I love it. It's very regal

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 07/08/2017 19:59

I like Alyssa Margaret, or Amelie Margaret.

Sophronia · 07/08/2017 23:32

It's lovely! Alexandra is very classic and not trendy or of the moment. Much much nicer than Amelie!

PunkAssMoFo · 08/08/2017 13:45

I quite like Margaret.
I've never been a fan of any Alex names, but it's perfectly fine.

NikiBabe · 09/08/2017 13:42

Alexandra is a beautiful and classic name. Not many around.

Alexandra Margaret is just fabulous OP.

Go for it. You cannot go wrong with such classic names.
