What do you think? I posted a thread a while ago where it was included in our longlist of 10 names. It's now on a shortlist of about 5 (the others are less out-there). I can't decide if it's a bit TOO pretentious. It may well be a middle name if we don't go for it as a first name.

I've searched but other threads about it are pretty old.

I know kids called Orlando, Arabella, Hermione etc and live in an area not known for its pretentiousness. Can't decide if we'll regret it if we DON'T call him this (both love it), but obviously I really don't want to saddle him with a name he hates.

Thanks for any comments (don't save my feelings, I'd rather know now!).

I love it.

It makes me think of the Narnia books, but in a nice way.

ladybirdsaredotty · 07/08/2017 09:16

Thank you. See, that's one of the reasons I love it, too!

I also think it's basically Caspar/Casper and Sebastian combined, and they're all fairly popular names...

I like it - makes me think of the Caspian Sea!

You could also consider Cassian or Cassius or course

I like Cas as a nickname too

SuperBeagle · 07/08/2017 09:24

Way, way, way prefer Caspar.

ladybirdsaredotty · 07/08/2017 09:25

Thanks! We like Cas, too.

I like Cassian/Cassius (and Casper), too, although Caspian is the one we keep coming back to, and the name we can agree on out of the 'Cas' names!

SuperBeagle I slightly worry that I do, too. But DP prefers Caspian and won't consider it. Hmm...

I much prefer the sound of Cassian/Cassius. Not a fan of the P in Casper and Caspian. No rational reason for this - just personal preference!

ladybirdsaredotty · 07/08/2017 09:28

Caspian also goes better with our girls' names, which are both of French origin (the names, not the girls), although I'm not convinced that matters.

It's really nice. I like slightly more unusual names and it's not unheard of, plus Casper is becoming more popular and it's a similar sound. I don't find it pretentious. Cassius would be.

If you both love it then go for it. If it helps I picture a very calm and kind boy named Caspian

ems137 · 07/08/2017 09:29

It sounds a bit pretentious to me I'm afraid but it all depends on what's "normal" in your area I suppose.

Where we live there's mostly a good selection of names from the top 100 and then a few traditional ethnic names too. Caspian would definitely stand out as an odd choice here.

Frid · 07/08/2017 09:29

Love Caspian because of the Narnia books

HairyMcFairy16 · 07/08/2017 09:34

I prefer Cassius but Caspian is fine. No one would bat an eye around here.

ladybirdsaredotty · 07/08/2017 09:41

Thank you all, it's really helpful to get your comments.

17caterpillars that's a nice depiction! Although I guess the reality may be different Grin

Stick with it if you both love it I'm sure he will too when you read him the stories.

I think it's a bit OTT personally, but it's an OK name. I love Caspar.

YouLookTiredDaddyPig · 07/08/2017 14:32

I really like it and all the other Cas names mentioned above.

megletthesecond · 07/08/2017 14:34

I prefer Caspar tbh.

tararabumdeay · 07/08/2017 14:47

I love it - so do you and your current partner.

Maybe he will be encouraged to read the best bits of children's literature because of his name.

I'm a teacher and have met one Caspian before. He was the most lovely young man.

Posh people can afford different names. I thought I'd got two different names for my two DS but they're common names now.

I wanted to call my first Zebadia Blue.

I haven't had to teach a Jayden yet.

user1471547428 · 07/08/2017 16:47

It was on my list along with Cassian. Went for Raphael in the end but I still really like it.

MrsJoyOdell · 07/08/2017 16:52

I adore Caspian! Also quite fond of Corin. I love all the Narnian names actually.

LorelaiVictoriaGilmore · 07/08/2017 16:55

I just LOVE it. DH won't have it, but he's not very good at names!

Amatree · 07/08/2017 17:00

Awful, sorry. Totally pretentious.
