Unusual middle names

What's the consensus on unusual or 'out there' middle names? I know that having an unusual first name can be problematic but what about for example 'Leon Phoenix'? I love both names and considering that combo for a boy. I actually wouldn't want Phoenix as a first name but think it really jazzes up Leon. I don't yet know the sex. Girls name is pretty normal but not very common. Obviously he can just use Leon so what would be the issues, if there are any? TIA

I love 'normal' first names combined with unusual middle names! Leon Phoenix is really cool.

I think it's great conversation fodder when you're older, especially if you can chuckle about your own unusual middle name iyswim:) I just think it's fab! Can you tell some of my kids have unusual middle names?!

CharleyAnn · 04/08/2017 12:44

I love it!

I am that strange person who asks my co-workers what thier middle names are and I've had some great unusual names come out of the conversations! :)

I think middle names are the perfect way to liven up a first name or tame it if the first name is a bit out there. Good to have options as you grow. Leon Phoenix sounds great, I also thought Leon Hendrix sounds cool too.

Great name 👍

I love an unusual middle name, my little DD 2.5 has one and she loves telling it to people.

Chaffinch4 · 04/08/2017 13:42

We've gone for more unusual first name and classic middle name. I think either way works fine - they balance each other out.

Mamabear4180 · 04/08/2017 15:11

I'm so glad people like this name Smile it's really growing on me!

LovelyBranches to me Hendrix is a bit try hard because of Jimi Hendrix. I kinda think it's cool to be named after a mythilogical bird who flies out of fire but Hendrix doesn't mean anything to me. My favourite band is actually Pink Floyd but even though I've toyed with Floyd (that rhymes)! I'd never do that. Also like Kings of Leon so Leon works!

Actually both names mean something to me. Leon has the star sign Leo in it which is the sign of somebody special to me and Phoenix means fire and both me and partner are Sagittarius and that's a fire sign. I don't like any of my family names so I had to get creative with this one, once I put those names together I thought it was a winner Grin

..and yes I'm into star signs!

My other 3 (female) children are named after myself and my sister in creative ways. It's so important to me that names mean something as well as sound good.

The middle name is the place to use unusual names, because they never really get used and it's likely most people won't even know their middle name, so it'll never cause them grief. But they can always choose to go by their middle name, so it's a win-win.

Mine have the following middle names:

  1. Morrison - after Jim Morrison from The Doors
  2. Robert - after Robert Plant from Led Zeppelin
  3. Chenault - after the character from the Hunter S. Thompson book 'The Rum Diary'
  4. Maybellene - after the Chuck Berry song

We decided on unusual middle names with a traditional first name as the purpose of a name is to identify and this way DC should be the only one Grin

Love the combination of names. My daughter's mn is Ramona which is a nod to my maiden name. How very old fashioned of me!

Thecomfortador · 05/08/2017 04:32

I love Leon Phoenix. I once knew someone with Clint, as in Eastwood, as their middle name. Not one you hear much these days.

troodiedoo · 05/08/2017 04:36

I like it! Phoenix would work for a girl too. Lia Phoenix?

troodiedoo · 05/08/2017 04:39

Buntysoven is your surname Ramone? I would never have changed that Grin

LovelyBranches · 05/08/2017 22:30

Mama I love the meaning behind the names you've chosen. They sound like you've made the perfect choice. I hope that baby Leon Phoenix has a safe arrival
