Am I being silly?!

Hi everyone, I'm currently 18 weeks pregnant, not sure yet what team I'm on yet but I am thinking about baby names as you do.. the thing is, I can't help but consider DH's sisters daughters names when looking at potential names for our baby and whether the names rhyme with theirs or not (something I don't want) is this something I really should be worrying about? For example, I really liked the name Luna, however she has a daughter called Layla, which makes me think I can't use Luna now as they rhyme! It's really doing my head in and I need someone to tell me a) yes you are being silly it doesn't matter or b) yes it matters steer clear of names that sound too similar.. sorry for the long post! Any input welcome!

Luna and Layla don't rhyme.

Chaffinch4 · 30/07/2017 21:51

Yes you are being silly. Luna and Layla don't sound that similar to me.

Do you live nearby and see a lot of DH's sister and her family?

AddALemon · 30/07/2017 21:52

It doesn't matter in my opinion. My name is Francesca, my cousin is Jessica. Never bothered us except older members in the family sometimes getting our names a bit confused.

AmyGardner · 30/07/2017 21:52

They alliterate, they don't rhyme. Nobody will notice or care.

GoodMorning1 · 30/07/2017 21:53

Those names don't rhyme

Migraleve · 30/07/2017 21:55

Luna does not rhyme with Layla Confused they are 2 different sounds. Whatsmore literally no one will think about how your child's name sounds alongside their cousins name.

Also Luna is a terrible name for a child, it's a really common cat/dog name at the moment

mrscropley · 30/07/2017 21:56

Luna fine -
Kayla not. .

flumpybear · 30/07/2017 21:58

Yes, they don't rhyme !! Use it if you want to

igotyoubabe · 30/07/2017 22:08

Lol! That told me!!

What about Ayda and Layla??

MommaGee · 30/07/2017 22:16

Still doesn't rhyme.

Words that rhyme with Layla.

Ayla
Cayla
Conswaylor
Delaylah
Eruswayla
Kayla
Layla
Taylor

igotyoubabe · 30/07/2017 22:19

Ok, so 'rhyme' wasn't the right word to use. That has been made clear. Let's just say 'sound too similar' for arguments sake.

Luna and Layla don't sound too similar.

Ceebs85 · 30/07/2017 22:24

The names you've mentioned are nothing alike. You're over thinking. Call your baby whatever you like OP

MommaGee · 30/07/2017 22:28

You're worried because they alliterate? I think there fine, both nice names

nodogsinthebedroom · 30/07/2017 22:45

You are being silly Smile

MammieBear · 31/07/2017 09:42

If you look at the meaning of the the names they both relate to the night so only for that are they similar, you shouldn't be put of the name you love though. Have you considered Selena, Selene, Celeste, Celestia. All relate to the Moon.

frid · 31/07/2017 13:28

Ada is pronounced the same as Ayda, no? Ayda and Layla look quite similar, but Ada and Layla don't at all

Aquamarine1029 · 31/07/2017 13:31

They don't rhyme and they don't sound similar. At all. You are seriously overthinking this.

MikeUniformMike · 31/07/2017 14:07

Luna sounds a lot like Loony.

BertrandRussell · 31/07/2017 14:09

But Luna is a horrible name.......

BikeRunSki · 31/07/2017 14:13

Call your baby whatever you want.

I have 3 sets of cousins (who are cousins of each other) called Jo/e and Chris. No one cares. Except my mum, who couldn't understand why her brothers were so unimaginative!

Bluntness100 · 31/07/2017 14:19

You're being silly, you really shouldn't be even considering their names. Just thinking of names you love.

Ohyesiam · 31/07/2017 15:04

I think your hormones are taking over opWink.
Don't think about other people when you are choosing names, just think of names you love.

MurrayMoo · 31/07/2017 16:20

Names are quite different. Also I wouldn't ever see it as an issue with cousins names being similar...definitely not something I'd even think about. Pick whatever name you like and don't compare to others :)
