Judith

I am expecting no.3 and struggling with girls names. My other 2 have classic, international names (I think). They are names that have been around for many hundreds of years anyway. Any thoughts on Judith? I want timeless, easy to shorten names, not fussy or overly pretty or trendy names.
Thanks

I like it!

WannaBeDelgadaToFitInToMyPrada · 29/07/2017 23:48

I like it. I like Miriam too. I like this kind of name.

bridgetreilly · 29/07/2017 23:49

Yes, good choice.

Taylor22 · 29/07/2017 23:49

One of the greatest woman I ever knew was named Judith. So I'm a huge fan!

DramaAlpaca · 29/07/2017 23:49

Yes, I think it ticks all your boxes.

TennisAtXmas · 29/07/2017 23:51

Haven't come across a Judith since I was a child, but i think its overdue for a revival, its a lovely name :-).

NannyR · 29/07/2017 23:53

I love the name Judith. I also like Edith and Meredith (I like the -ith sound!)

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 29/07/2017 23:55

Sorry to upset the positive reactions apple cart but I think it's the most horrible girls name imaginable.
However That's my opinion not a fact.
Hope I've not upset you

WinkyisbackontheButterBeer · 29/07/2017 23:58

I'm not a fan. It seems old but not classic.
However, that is just me. If you love it and would happily be called it yourself, then go for it.

catsofa · 30/07/2017 00:00

I love it. Knew one who shortened to Jody as a child.

myrtleWilson · 30/07/2017 00:00

I'm a godmother to a lovely 10yr old Judith and concur its a fab name ( like NannyR I also love Meredith but never convinced Dh...) good luck op!

Buntysoven · 30/07/2017 00:02

Gorgeous. A really refreshing choice and one I would consider if ever lucky enough to have another dd.

Guccibelt · 30/07/2017 00:07

Nooo it's really bad and nowhere near a comeback. I know one Judith in her 60s and even she thinks it's old fashioned and uses a nickname.

RiseToday · 30/07/2017 00:09

No, it's not a pretty name and it sounds ancient

SonicBoomBoom · 30/07/2017 00:11

I think it's due a revival.

Refilona · 30/07/2017 00:14

I like it too. Refreshing in a sea of Ellas, Mias, Sophias and Islas (which are lovely names but it's nice to have something different!)

NC4now · 30/07/2017 00:14

Not for me but if you like it, go for it.
Personally I prefer Julia if you're going down that road.

punkpuffin · 30/07/2017 00:14

Personally I don't like it. I think Edith is much better.

LorLorr2 · 30/07/2017 00:22

Ahh I don't like to be a downer but I strongly dislike Judith on a poor 2017 baby. Agree with suggestion above that Julia would be a good idea!
Other ideas Eve, Helen, Marie, Esther, Erin, Laura/Lara, Sadie

TheForgetfulCat · 30/07/2017 00:25

Super name. Every Judith I know is Jude, is that the shortening you'd be after?

Julia is also a lovely option.

Pallisers · 30/07/2017 00:27

Not a huge fan but it is fine. It feels kind of dry to me for some reason.

I prefer Julia or Juliet

BikeRunSki · 30/07/2017 00:28

I think it sounds harsh and ugly, even though I know a few and they are all lovely!

Alyx80 · 30/07/2017 00:29

It's awful sorry.

Joeybee · 30/07/2017 00:32

I like Judith. it's pretty dated...but I think it's totally useable and lovely and ready for a comeback.

ExplodedCloud · 30/07/2017 00:37

For some reason it smacks of repression to me Confused. Judy is jolly, Jude is earnest but Judith is a woman who struggles.
The strange thing is I don't know a Judith!
