Judith

I am expecting no.3 and struggling with girls names. My other 2 have classic, international names (I think). They are names that have been around for many hundreds of years anyway. Any thoughts on Judith? I want timeless, easy to shorten names, not fussy or overly pretty or trendy names.
Thanks

There is something very lovely about Judith. Yes, it's a name that isn't around very much anymore but that doesn't mean anything. Way back in the 70's my first best (ever so posh) friend at school was Judith (Judy) and she was the loveliest, kindest, sweetest soul I have ever known.

thebigbluedustbin · 30/07/2017 01:03

Timeless. I love it.

Sophronia · 30/07/2017 01:06

It's a very strong sounding name, in comparison to Mia, Daisy, Tilly etc.

lazycrazyhazy · 30/07/2017 01:58

I think it fits the zeitgeist in that lots of old biblical names are 'in'. I'm from the last generation of Judiths in their 60s now. So yes due a revival I'd say.

Dixiestamp · 30/07/2017 04:25

I knew a few Judiths; all of them shortened it to Jude, which I quite like. I think it's likely we'll see lots of names like this returning before long.

I like it, it's my grandma's name. She goes by Judy.

blinkineckmum · 30/07/2017 06:52

Thank you for the replies. I want opinions so no upset here. I don't love it, but I don't love anything! So suggestions are very welcome. Thanks

Alittlepotofrosie · 30/07/2017 06:56

Judith is an old lady name and not in a good way. Judy is better, miriam or meredith shortened to Merry/Mirri is cute.

KoalaDownUnder · 30/07/2017 06:57

It's awful. Fusty and dull, in the vein of Barbara or Janet.

ConstanceCraving · 30/07/2017 06:57

Plain.

PuckeredAhole · 30/07/2017 06:58

Horrid. I used to know the most boring, insipid person called Judith and the name suited her.

SquedgieBeckenheim · 30/07/2017 07:00

My initial reaction was a bit "urgh, old fashioned" but reading the replies and reading Judith several times, it's grown on me. Lots of options for shortening which is good imo.
How about: u
Meredith
Edith
Elsie
Julia

blinkineckmum · 30/07/2017 07:05

I do also like Janet and Susan (Jan and Sue). Sue is out though, too similar to my son's name.

Susannah nn susie is quite nice.

Serenrose · 30/07/2017 07:55

I know a Judith and she is amazing so I'm a bit biaised towards the name! She is known as Jude. I also love Miriam as suggested by pp. Other suggestions - Penelope, Karen, Sally??

Icewindfire98 · 30/07/2017 07:58

Helena?
Janet is nice

witchofzog · 30/07/2017 08:01

Sorry but I absolutely hate the name Judith. It has always been my most hated girls name. Sorry

TheScottishPlay · 30/07/2017 08:02

I like it too along with Julia, Julienne and Juliet. Strong but 'pretty'.

Theworldisfullofidiots · 30/07/2017 08:03

No don't like it.

Jane?

n0ne · 30/07/2017 08:04

I much prefer Judith to Janet or Susan. Refreshing choice.

ifigoup · 30/07/2017 08:07

Other names in this vein that I like are:

Jacintha/Jacinta
Thalia
Nicola

Celestia26 · 30/07/2017 08:13

Are you OK with the Judy shortening? Because that would be a strong possibility!

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 30/07/2017 09:16

I like it too, also Judy.😀
