I'm only 14 weeks with DC2 but having given DS a very strongly traditional scandinavian name (DH Swedish but we are UK resident) and having had some mixed reactions we're looking for something that fits the theme but is a bit more manageable for the UK. Thoughts appreciated!

Tobias
Mikael (Meeka-yel)

Astrid
Annaliese

They are all lovely.

You might get mick-kale, though, when people see it written, rather than the three syllabus pronunciation

All lovely! My faves are Tobias and Astrid.

How about Mattias, Magnus or Emil for a boy and Anneli, Freya or Inga for a girl?

picknmiss · 29/07/2017 11:04

Thanks! Yes I am worried about the Mikael pronunciation as I struggle to say it exactly as my DH does myself to be honest! I just love the way it looks written down which isn't the best reason for choosing a name.

I like Mattias and Freya and initially loved Anneli but as we're not far from South London I was worried about Anerley connotations?

How about Anneke?

SarahJonesS · 29/07/2017 14:37

Mikael is quite hard to pronounce and will be mispronounced in the UK.

I Love Tobias and Astrid.

MammieBear · 29/07/2017 14:43

Astrid and Tobias are Lovely choices with good meanings.

picknmiss · 29/07/2017 14:48

Thanks all, I think we'll have to give Mikael a miss as seems pronunciation will definitely be tricky.
How is Anneke pronounced? Is it like Anneka (of Challenge Anneka)?

Love Tobias and Astrid

MammieBear · 29/07/2017 15:02

Yes correct you got it.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 29/07/2017 15:35

Tobias and Annaliese.

Chaffinch4 · 29/07/2017 17:54

Astrid is lovely. What about Ingrid? Tobias is great for being easy in the UK.

picknmiss · 29/07/2017 18:01

DP has vetoed Anneke sadly! I do really like Ingrid but it's an exDP's mum's name and we were quite close when we were together so she might think it a bit odd! I'm going to put Inga on the list, always good to have options so you can see which suits them best when they arrive Smile
