What do you think of the name raphaela? Said raff-eye-ella? My other daughter is called Sofia and a son called Louie.

Love it. Not sure about the one L though? Maybe I'm wrong but thought it was traditionally 2 L's

mh1012 · 29/07/2017 00:03

There's quite few different ways of spelling it. My mums name is Maria so that would be her middle name. What do you think?

BroomstickOfLove · 29/07/2017 00:09

I like Raphaella, but I've never seen the spelling you are suggesting.

BroomstickOfLove · 29/07/2017 00:11

Oh, I just re-read your post, and see that the spelling in the header was a mistake.

mh1012 · 29/07/2017 00:11

Oh nooooo just realised what I did 🙈

Yes lovely

Spelled Raphaella though.

MissAlabamaWhitman · 29/07/2017 00:18

My last baby was to be Raphaella if a girl.

He was a boy, his name is Raphael.

firawla · 29/07/2017 00:21

It's beautiful!

RaffaellaNC · 29/07/2017 00:41

It's my name (have name-changed to post here!). I think it is a very pretty name and get lots of compliments on it, though I must add I have spent a lot of my life hankering after a name that's easier to spell and that blends in more.

I would like in many ways to not have to repeat my name to people, or to be quizzed about my heritage, or to put up with my name being mis-spelt about half the time. (Speaking of which, good call to go with a "ph" if you're in the UK: more expected there, and will save your dd having to deal with quite so many mis-spellings. I think the single "l" is also easier internationally as people in Spain have been confused by the double "l" in my name, as it changes the pronunciation for them.)

How lovely that you are giving her your mum's name as a middle name; funnily enough, Mary is my middle name and I am grateful for its simplicity.

Congratulations on the upcoming birth of your daughter! I am sure that whatever name you choose for her will suit her perfectly!

Thank you all! New to this and have no idea how to edit! Obvs got the heading wrong 🙈 I am absolutely in love with the name but when I tell anyone I get very mixed opinions.. but hey ho! 😂

mh1012 · 29/07/2017 00:45

Thank you so much Raffaella! I'm Brazilian so my daughters name is spelt Sofia with the F and not the PH. And the amount of times I've had to correct people! Completely get where you're coming from with that one! And really good point about the 1 L. Thank you.

TheSeaTheSkyTheSeaTheSkyyyyyy · 29/07/2017 01:17

With one L is pretty common in Brazil. At least as common as ph is over f, anyway.

The way you've spelled it in your OP is my preferred spelling, OP. Nice name.

17caterpillars1mouse · 29/07/2017 08:14

I think it's beautiful and fits in well with your other children's names

SuperBeagle · 29/07/2017 08:16

I like it, but prefer the spelling Raphaella.

Also, I'd pronounce it raff-AY-ella. I pronounce Raphael as raff-AY-el also.
