My name choices

NeonAngel · 28/07/2017 17:50

I picked my name's a while ago OH and I had talked about names if we ever did get pregnant and agreed on Oliver more recently we decided well I did that I should pick names incase I find out I'm having a lil girl, decided on Lilly.

So my question is should I add names or keep looking incase someone I know decides on either of those names for their little one?

Thanks for any reply X

No harm in having a spare just in case something puts you off those names in the meantime. But I wouldn't worry about other people using it - nobody owns a name and I'd stick with what I'd set my heart on

I love both names, although any Lily I know of just has one L?

I think it's great to only have one of each, rather than trying to decide between several.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 28/07/2017 18:09

Agree on the Lily spelling.
Choose away OP, although Oliver and Lily are lovely.

No harm in having spares. I can see myself having the baby and then going "oh shit, doesn't suit at all!" Grin

Oliver and Lily are popular anyway, so chances are you will know someone who used one of the names. If it's not immediate family, does it really matter?

Lemondrop99 · 28/07/2017 19:55

I know a Lilly. It's also an accepted spelling

As above, Oliver and Lilly are really popular so even if someone else uses the name, it won't look odd if you also use it.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 28/07/2017 19:57

It has to be Lily. Looks wrong with the extra L.

Oliver and Lily are lovely.

SuperBeagle · 28/07/2017 20:44

Both names are very popular so it's likely you'll know someone at some point with kids called Oliver or Lily.

Agree with others that Lily is the better spelling.

BikeRunSki · 28/07/2017 20:50

Lily, as in the flower, is spelt like that.

No harm in having spare names just in case, but Oliver and Lily are v popular, and you'll probably come across so many that you get many associations with the name.

Decaffstilltastesweird · 28/07/2017 21:06

Agree with pps. They are very popular names, so don't think it will be a problem if someone you know uses one of them. If you had chosen unusual names like Humphrey and Aphrodite and then your best mate had twins names Humphrey and Aphrodite, then you'd probably want to have a back up Smile!

If you've got names picked out and you are unwavering in those choices then very good for you! Stick with them, as you must really love them. I seem to change my mind every two minutes!

Was using my phone when I posted and didn't realize the stupid auto correct had changed Lily (nearly did it there too).

Oliver was my OH's choice I had a different name in mind but when he said Oliver it just stuck and I was so happy that he picked the name too l.

I personally know a few people who have older children named Lily but none of my direct family and friends have the name.

Thanks everyone for the replies, means a lot being new here.
