Is this too tacky?

Hello everyone!
Let me introduce myself:
I'm expecting triplets girls in early December (the 4th if everything goes right).
My husband and I are both hardcore fans of short names (both of our names have 4 letters) and we pretty much settled on the girls names on the day we knew their sex.
All of them will have a 4 letter name that we absolutely love.
The thing is that I'm the biggest history nerd to ever walk this planet, and about three weeks ago an idea popped into my mind:
Mother fucking Romanovs.
(yeah those Russians tee-hee-hee)
You see,it's a bit like this:
My name's Olga, eldest daughter of Tzar Nicholas II and Alexdra.
One of the girl's middle names was going to be Maria anyway since it is a family name.
What if the other two have Anastasia and Tatiana as middle names?

So what does the Mumsnet tribunal think?
Will it link my girls and my love for history or Am I being tacky?

Disclaimers:
DH doesn't know a word of this crap.
We live in The Netherlands (he is dutch) if that makes any difference.

I won't take it hard so feel free to be as honest as you like! No filter, ladies!

Very nice. Use them op xx

NapQueen · 27/07/2017 22:43

I think if I had triplets id need to name them A... B.... and C.... to even have a chance of knowing who was who. And maybe keep them in a hat each with their initial on.

IDontBowlOnShabbos · 27/07/2017 22:44

Yeah it's fine. No one knows anyone's middle names anyway.

nodogsinthebedroom · 27/07/2017 22:45

I thought for a second that you were the eldest daughter of Tzar Nicholas II Shock.

Tbh, yes, it is a little bit tacky, but if they're only middle names, and you like them, does it really matter? No one has to know that they have matching middle names if you don't tell them..

OlennasWimple · 27/07/2017 22:45

I don't think it's tacky as such, I'm just not sure that I would name my DDs after such an ill-fated family

WannaBeDelgadaToFitInToMyPrada · 27/07/2017 22:46

Yes that sounds lovely, given that your name is Olga, it doesn't come from nowhere to give the next generation Russian middle names.

I like short names too. I also like the slightly unusual combination of short name for a first name and longer name for the middle name as it's usually the other way round.

OlgandTriplets · 27/07/2017 22:48

Olennas- absolutely true,I've thought about that.
Still doesn't put me off thoughGrin

I have no idea what you are taking about but they are lovely names. Congratulations on you pregnancy.

bridgetreilly · 27/07/2017 23:54

I don't think most people would even notice. Maria is a very common name and I know plenty of Anastasia's too. Tatiana is less common here, but not enough that anyone would automatically assume she was named after a Romanov.

So if you and your DH like the names, especially just as middle names, I can't see any reason at all not to use them.

SerfTerf · 27/07/2017 23:56

It's fine.

Buntysoven · 28/07/2017 00:00

Sounds fun!

feebeemee · 28/07/2017 00:25

I think it's a great idea and I especially love the name Tatiana.

(Disclaimer-I'm a massive Russian history nerd so my opinion may not be entirely unbiased!)

Muddlingalongalone · 28/07/2017 06:32

I doubt many people would click even if you used them as first names, let alone middle names. I wouldn't have.
They are all lovely names, go for it!

scrivette · 28/07/2017 06:45

I went to school with twins Olga and Tatiana.

I don't think that many people will notice.

MissBax · 28/07/2017 06:48

I wouldn't have a clue who they are so wouldn't think it tacky :)

rizlett · 28/07/2017 06:50

In the interest of having a full picture - what were the original options for your dc names op?

BikeRunSki · 28/07/2017 06:54

I wouldn't make the connection.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 28/07/2017 08:46

Go for it Olga 😄

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 28/07/2017 08:50

When you mentioned tacky I thought you were going to want to name them Lucie-Mae, Lacie-Mae & Lizzie-Mae or some such bollocks. I think you're fine with Romanovs!

TheSeaTheSkyTheSeaTheSkyyyyyy · 28/07/2017 12:19

I had to read this two or three times to even understand the question.

You're asking if it's okay for your triplets' middle names to be Maria, Anastasia and Tatiana?

It's absolutely fine. Most people won't know their middle names anyway and even if they did, they'd have to have pretty niche interests to even see the link (I had to google it).

Elbi · 28/07/2017 12:39

They're lovely if, as you say, you don't mind the whole murder thing.

Decaffstilltastesweird · 28/07/2017 13:19

Definitely not tacky, but it's a bit of a gruesome story, (obviously). Didn't Maria and Anastasia die in a particularly horrible way due to bullets not penetrating their jewel lined bodices? It makes me feel a bit sick if I think about that too much (sorry).

I love the name Isadora (Duncan) though, so probably can't throw any stones in this particular glass house Grin.

WhiteHairReally · 28/07/2017 16:48

My husband vetoed Christabel (Pankhurst) as a middle name for our short first-named DD on the grounds it was indeed 'tacky' - the word he used. I suspect it was the name itself he objected to, rather than the historical association.

I'd notice the link between your DDs names and yours and I think I'd be a little bit judgy based on their sad demise or think that you were making a point of being a Romanov supporter.

krakentoast · 28/07/2017 22:33

I love this idea. Please do it and then write a series of heartwarming novels about the adventures of your amazing triplets!
