What's your thoughts on Nicholas nn Nico?

Also how many children called Nicholas do you know?

Really like it - currently expecting a DD, but had she been a boy Nicholas/Nico was firmly on our shortlist. It's classic, easily recognised but not currently overused. And Nico instead of Nick/Nicky gives it a more modern feel.

I'm a primary teacher, and have only come across two Nicholases in two years. Our local area has a large Greek population, and I've noticed that Nicholas currently seems more popular among the Greek community than elsewhere.

iamdazedandconfused · 26/07/2017 21:31

I really like it Smile I don't know any little ones called Nicholas, only adults. I think it's nice that he could use Nico as he grew up or go for Nick/Nicholas if he wanted to.

TempsPerdu · 26/07/2017 21:33

Sorry - meant 2 in six years! And that was across several different schools (I also taught supply for a while).

NoqontroI · 26/07/2017 21:34

I only know one child called Nicholas, my son. I love the name, but then again I would, seeing as I used it.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 26/07/2017 21:39

Really love it. My dc are late teens, and I know a 17 yo Nico, plus two 19 y o Nicks.

Elbi · 26/07/2017 21:44

I think it's great. Haven't heard of a young Nicholas for a long time and like the shortening Nico.

early30smum · 26/07/2017 21:47

Love it!

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 26/07/2017 21:49

Very nice, have always liked Nicholas, but not Nick/Nicky.
Nico is cool !

SoyUnPerdedor2 · 26/07/2017 22:49

Nico is cool.
So is Cole.

And nicholas is a strong, traditional recognised name.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 26/07/2017 23:14

Yes Cole is fab !

G1ggleloop · 26/07/2017 23:18

I have a Nicholas. He insists on being called Nicholas and does not like it being shortened. There is one other in his whole school. I like it, not too common but still a recognisable name

Sophronia · 27/07/2017 02:07

Lovely!

Maggie2828 · 27/07/2017 09:19

Love it. I have two primary school age boys and don't know any.

MikeUniformMike · 27/07/2017 13:49

Is it pronounced Nicko or Neeko?

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 27/07/2017 16:51

Neeko.

MikeUniformMike · 27/07/2017 20:06

Thought it might be. Thanks for replying. I know a little girl called Nico (pr. neeko) but it's not short for anything.

indigo13 · 27/07/2017 22:00

Am I the only one who just hears knicker-less?!

Montsti · 29/07/2017 10:30

I'm with you indigo13...I also know loads of them...babies to adults...not keen on Nic/Nick for a child either but I do think Nicky is cute for a child and Nico for a child/adult...

Oysterbabe · 29/07/2017 18:53

Nico is one name where I prefer that short version than the longer Nicholas. I'd just go with Nico.

TuttiFruttiCutie · 29/07/2017 20:01

Are you going to pronounce it N-I-co? That would make sense for Nicholas. However the Nico I know who is not a Nicholas pronounces it as Nee- co.

Like it though 🙂
