What do people think of the name Maeva?
I love it and am hoping to get DH on board. I like the fact it's unusual but not too out there. I'm not sure about pronunciation issues though or it getting mistaken for Maeve.

I've never heard of it before. I would expect a lifetime of "no my name isn't Maeve"

SuperBeagle · 26/07/2017 12:07

Why not just Maeve or Ava? Instead of mashing the two together.

KoalaDownUnder · 26/07/2017 12:08

Much prefer just Maeve.

Plantpot83 · 26/07/2017 12:56

I like it, it's quite popular in France I believe, I know one (adult).

llhj · 26/07/2017 13:02

Yes popular in France after singer Maeva Melina. If you like it go for it. I think it's ok.

summerbayray · 26/07/2017 13:36

I do like Maeve but tend to prefer names that are longer and end in an 'a' sound. Ava is lovely but its sooo popular and that puts me off.

I've never heard Maeva but I do like it.

Guccibelt · 26/07/2017 14:58

Never heard of it and not keen sorry

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 26/07/2017 17:50

Maeve is much nicer, or Ava, regardless of its popularity, it's lovely.

Buntysoven · 27/07/2017 01:06

Pretty!

BreadZeppelin · 27/07/2017 09:18

I know a Maeva (also French) and think it's a pretty name

17caterpillars1mouse · 27/07/2017 11:44

It's ok but I prefer Maeve or Mavis. I imagine, at least in England, people will assume it's a mistype of Maeve when written down or may midyear it as Nerve which may get annoying

DumbledoresApprentice · 27/07/2017 11:58

Are you intending to go for the French Maëva pronunciation? (My-eh-va)
I think it's incredibly pretty but people may not get the pronunciation right first time, they may just assume it's Maeve with an ah on the end. If you like it go for it though. I have a name that people don't always pronounce correctly first time and a tricky surname but it's fine. I don't understand all the fuss about people mispronouncing or misspelling names. Yes it happens (a lot) but it's hardly the end of the world.

Liadain · 27/07/2017 12:03

Oh, I like the French pronunciation Dumbledore mentioned. I did just read it as Maeve with an a at first. It's lovely.

summerbayray · 27/07/2017 16:07

I've been pronouncing it Maeve with an 'a' at the end. I'm not sure about the French pronunciation. Our surname gets mispronounced all the time and it doesn't bother me. I do worry that she won't like having to correct people though. hmm. Tbh I don't think I'll get DH on board with either pronunciation but it's been good to see what others think.

It's ok but I prefer Maeve or Mavis.

Grin Grin

You prefer Mavis?!

friedegs · 07/08/2017 22:16

Congrats! I think it's an elegant and timeless name. So much more interesting than Ava.
