In Spain it's spelt Merce - short for Mercedes

I prefer Clemency and Grace for names with similar meaning.

My newborn has an unusual name and I kept it to myself because I love it and didn't want to have other people's opinions ruin it. If you love it, go for it.

Although I don't think there's anything wrong with it. It just sounds a bit like Marcia, which is a name I dislike.

I hate all virtue names. Mercy is particularly bad.

It makes me imagine an older evangelical Christian lady.

It'll be confusing when she does French exchanges.

I only know one, a little girl from Africa. I think it's a pretty name.

I really like it, it makes a change from the endlessly dull Grace as virtue names go.

Although, as per pp I've only ever met African girls called Mercy (not that's that's an issue, just an observation)
