Will Sienna date?

Just that really. I'm still trying to decide whether to give DD2 it as a middle name or if I should go with something classic? It does feel a bit current/fashionable, but I've liked it for years.

I don't know any baby / child Siennas, so I don't think of it as particularly current. I like it!

ilivebythesea · 18/07/2017 20:27

I know loads of Siennas! (from babies to 10 year olds) But if you're giving it as a middle name, I like it.

Sophronia · 18/07/2017 21:24

I do think it will date, along with similar names like Scarlett. I'd go with something classic.

DramaAlpaca · 18/07/2017 21:28

If you've always liked it you might regret not using it.

I like it, it's very pretty.

Crumbelina · 18/07/2017 21:38

Ha! DD1's middle name is Scarlett. Smile Oh well,
they can both date. Wink

Yes I'm afraid it will - just like ruby etc

Somerville · 18/07/2017 22:53

Siena spelt like the Italian city is perhaps more classic, if you're worried about dating.
But I don't think that really matters for a middle name anyway?

Buntysoven · 19/07/2017 00:27

Ruby?! That's Victorian scullery maid to me, not modern at all!

Weddingoutfit · 19/07/2017 00:30

Scarlett an ruby are very old names I always thought?

buttercup54321 · 19/07/2017 00:31

All names date but for a middle name that wouldn't bother me

Stardustandicecream · 19/07/2017 00:31

Ruby was popular about 5 years ago....

Weddingoutfit · 19/07/2017 00:31

Scarlett and ruby*

WanderingTrolley1 · 19/07/2017 00:33

I think it could date.

SuperBeagle · 19/07/2017 01:59

Ruby and Scarlett are both older names than Sienna.

But I don't think any of them are so popular that they'll become the next Karen or Deborah. That'll be reserved for names like Harper, which was an obscure name until its burst in popularity, and which will inevitably recede dramatically in popularity over the coming years.

newbian · 19/07/2017 02:23

I know so many Siennas under the age of 10...don't do it. My cousin has FOUR Sienna's in her class at school.

KoalaDownUnder · 19/07/2017 02:39

Yes, I think it will date massively. One of those names that is popular for only 10 years or so.

GirlcalledJames · 19/07/2017 11:45

A friend has a daughter called Vienna, which I would guess won't date because it will never be popular.
I don't think a dated middle name will be much of a handicap.

GirlcalledJames · 19/07/2017 11:46

Oh and another friend has an Enna, it's a Bosnian name.

Crumbelina · 19/07/2017 12:33

Good point on the middle name being less of an issue if it dates. I grew up in the 80s with Stella as a middle name and it certainly seemed odd compared to all the girls who had Louise or Anne as a middle name. I guess it's a bit more fashionable now but will probably date again ...

Pondering Siena with one n. DH lived there for a year and we've visited a few times. It's very beautiful ...
