It's very early days for us and just starting a long list...would love some opinions (don't worry about being blunt, I can take it)!

We don't mind if names are popular, I'm a 1980s Sarah and didn't bother me...

Girls

  • Emily
  • Camilla nn Milly
  • Ophelia (any nickname suggestions?)
  • Isobel
  • Isabelle
  • Imogen

Boys

  • Charlie (probably Charles on the certificate)
  • Ellis
  • Ralph nn Ralphie
  • Joshua
  • Sebastian nn Seb
  • Laurence or Lawrence nn Laurie

I love Isobel. It's my daughter's mn. We didn't use it as a first due to popularity but if that doesn't bother you

From your boys list I really like Joshua but dislike Josh and Lawrence nn Lawrie

PhuntSox · 18/07/2017 09:15

Ophelia and Laurence, both familiar but not popular and both lovely.

BackforGood · 19/07/2017 20:12

Emily - I like

  • Camilla nn Milly - Always think it is a bit odd to 'plan' a nickname before the child is born. IME they tend to evolve naturally, and often aren't what you would expect.... so have a think - are you ok if her friends call her 'Cam' or whatever.
  • Ophelia (any nickname suggestions?) Not my taste at all. See above re nick name
  • Isobel - Every 3rd girl born in the last 5 years seems to be called one variation of Isobel through to Isabella, and there are so many different ways to spell it. I really would avoid for both reasons
  • Isabelle - See above
  • Imogen - is ok. Wouldn't be my personal choice, but nothing wrong with it

Charlie (probably Charles on the certificate) - I like

  • Ellis - Not my personal taste but is OK
  • Ralph nn Ralphie - Don't like this. Don't know why, just never have. 'Ralphie' really is extra bad
  • Joshua - Love this name. Is ever popular but rarely 'too' popular. Easy to spell, no confusion about how to pronounce. Will only be shortened to 'Josh'
  • Sebastian nn Seb - never liked this (again, that's just my taste)
  • Laurence or Lawrence nn Laurie - Nice. Not one I'd have thought of, but I like it, and the shortening. Prefer the 'u' spelling.

Camilla and Laurence (Laurie) Smile
