Thoughts as a shortening with a more traditional name on BC-let's not be too unkind though please ladies.

It's a good name - and having the full name on the BC gives you options.

(Is it Euphemia or Elizabeth?)

Jooni · 13/07/2017 19:20

Lovely as a shortening.

Notreallyarsed · 13/07/2017 19:21

I love it!

NC4now · 13/07/2017 19:22

Is it pronounced Effie or Eeffie?

I like it either way, just interested.

villainousbroodmare · 13/07/2017 19:23

More of a sound than a name imo. Like what you say when you scramble up out of a beanbag.

coralush · 13/07/2017 19:25

It's beautiful.

C0untDucku1a · 13/07/2017 19:26

Elphaba?

Lapinlapin · 13/07/2017 19:28

Makes me think of Effi Briest.

Pretty name, though, I like it

Flofferton · 13/07/2017 19:29

It's a bit wispy and insubstantial.

Ca55andraMortmain · 13/07/2017 19:29

I love it. Have you decided on the longer name for BC yet? I like it as a shortening for Elizabeth or Josephine (but if I had the nerve I would go for Persephone or Elphaba.)

Thinkingoutloudmostly · 13/07/2017 19:30

A beanbag😂😂 that possibly makes me love it more! Basically I wanted to call her Effie but aware she will need a more 'sensible' name for job applications and stuff so it's between Elizabeth Ann and Evelyn Rosa (nn Effie) both I have seen as legitimate 'official' names for Effie x

Unless your name is Tower(s) it's lovely.

ButterfliesandMoths · 13/07/2017 19:31

Loving this... Evelyn Rosa (nn Effie)

SugarMiceInTheRain · 13/07/2017 19:33

I love Effie as a nickname (and really enjoyed reading Effi Briest fwiw). I think it would work beautifully as a nickname for Elizabeth or Evelyn.

C0untDucku1a · 13/07/2017 19:33

What about felicity evelyn - F.E. - Effie?

PhilippeFlop · 13/07/2017 19:37

I have an Effie, I get lots of lovely comments about her name.

Thinkingoutloudmostly · 13/07/2017 19:38

Sooo much more positive than I thought it would be!! Thank you ladies!!😊😊

Effy from Skins was a nn for Elizabeth, I believe.

I knew a Stephanie who was "Steffy" and it morphed into "Effy" over time.

Balonder · 13/07/2017 19:45

I know an Effie who was originally Stephanie too

villainousbroodmare · 13/07/2017 19:50

Evelyn Rose is lovely.

LilaBard · 13/07/2017 19:58

I know an old lady called Effie, short for Ephanie (not Stephanie!), which I thought was a lovely name that I'd not heard before

SuperBeagle · 13/07/2017 20:10

I'm an Elizabeth and have never heard of Effie as a shortening

It's a shortening of Euphemia traditionally

Thinkingoutloudmostly · 13/07/2017 20:17

I have done extensive research into this😂🙈 it's not your 'traditional' shortening but isn't unheard of. I'm not a fan of Euphemia unfortunately xx

I do also like Stephanie but don't feel it flows well with our surname (a common S name)

Evelyn Rosa is a beautiful name, I like Effie as a nn too.
