not Valentine for a boy.

The girls names are all unusual and I like them excpet Sophia, which is very very popular, but still pretty.

Not keen on Percy, George good strong classic name

TurquoiseOwl · 13/07/2017 15:24

I like Sophia and George, but not the others.

Onedaysoooon · 13/07/2017 15:24

Nice girls' names.

Omg not Percy.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 13/07/2017 15:26

Love Valentina ( Leni).
George for a boy.

Sophronia · 13/07/2017 16:18

I like Sophia and George

MammieBear · 13/07/2017 16:26

Araminta and Arabella are virtually the same name with lovely meanings (yielding to prayer) Valentine is lovely for a boy you could even go Valentino for an Italian twist.

Jooni · 13/07/2017 16:29

Valentina and George are the best. Quite different in feel though. I also like Sophia (v popular though) and Arabella from your girls' names.

I love Valentine (it's DS's middle name) but I think it's potentially teaseworthy as a first I'm afraid. Dislike Percy, it's a bit pompous and wet.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 13/07/2017 16:32

I like Sophia and Arabella

I do like Valentine for a boy but wouldn't use it for a) teasing potential,b) the nn Val.

Catrina1234 · 13/07/2017 16:33

Try the playground test "hey Valentina pass the ball quick"or "Why won't you share your crisps Araminta. Sorry but some of these names could have been made up by the Bronte sisters. They're pretentious. Sorry.

sugarhoneyicetea · 13/07/2017 16:34

Love Valentina. It's beautiful. Not massively keen on your boy names but OMG anything but Percy!

AdaColeman · 13/07/2017 16:37

Valentina and Araminta are both lovely for a girl.

Sophie is too popular, and Arabella is too close to the many Belle Bella names which have been popular for some time now.

I quite like Valentine, but think it could be a difficult name to live with, what about Vincent or Laurence?

Not keen on George or Percy, do you like Rafe?

grufallosfriend · 13/07/2017 17:03

Araminta and Valentina for a girl.

Valentine for a boy! Reminds me of Valentine Warner. I think it's a great strong name!

bridgetreilly · 13/07/2017 17:17

Valentina (first choice) - don't like this
Sophia - it's fine
Arabella - it's okay. Prefer Annabel or Isabel
Araminta - awful

Boys;

Valentine - I kind of like this
George - okay but boring
Percy - cute

Mothervulva · 13/07/2017 17:20

Valentina or Araminta.

George for the boys although I'm not keen.

Lizibet · 13/07/2017 17:35

Love Valentina for a girl or Valentino rather Valentine for a boy ( though I'm a little biased on that one )

Sophia is a lovely name. It's not an unusual name but there are upsides to that to - it's easier to find things with their name on it without having to get them specially made or personalised and they wont have to put up with people constantly misspelling or mispronouncing it

Percy's a bit meh and Araminta sounds like a model of car or smt tbh

Perfectly1mperfect · 13/07/2017 17:50

Valentina - Sounds ok but will probably be shortened to Val, which I don't like.
Sophia - Lovely
Sophia Valentina - works well in this combination
Arabella -ok
Araminta - I don't like this at all, sorry.

Boys;

Valentine - Definitly not. My son is 14 and I can guarantee he would hate if this was his name as he would be made fun of. School is difficult enough. Sorry.
George - Nice
Percy - Definitly not, same reason as Valentine and it's just not a nice sounding name in my opinion.

AutumnalLeaves38 · 13/07/2017 17:53

Ooh, Lizibet, sounds like you might have a Valentino in RL.
How lovely! Smile

OP,

Yes, prefer Valentino to Valentine , for a boy.
Alternatively, Raphael/ Rafael has a similar vibe.

But Valentina for a girl is really pretty.

Like Sophia/ Sofia too...is far more used, though, if that sort of thing bothers you? (For under 5s around here, anyway: Southern Central county).
Sophia Valentina (middle name) also flows nicely.

AutumnalLeaves38 · 13/07/2017 17:56

^ I've only met 1 RL Valentina (aged 7 or 8ish), and her NN amongst friends was "Vee"...everyone else called her by the full name.

ConstanceCraving · 13/07/2017 17:58

Arabella and George.

adifferentnameforthis · 13/07/2017 18:19

I want to like Percy but all I can think of are the sweets and you dont want people calling your boy Percy Pig.

I love Valentino though!

SuperBeagle · 13/07/2017 20:15

Valentina - Love this as a full name, but all of the shortenings are horrid (Val? Tina?) and because it's a four syllable name, it will get shortened.

Sophia - Lovely.

Sophia Valentina - A bit rhymey for my taste.

Arabella - Love this. My favourite from your list.

Araminta - Nope. Don't like this at all.

Valentine - Not unless you want him to be teased relentlessly.

George - Lovely. Best of your boy names.

Percy - Hell no. Percy is slang for penis.

Thank you. Any other suggestions welcome.

DramaAlpaca · 13/07/2017 20:19

Girls' names are fine apart from Araminta. I don't like the boys' names, but George is the best of them.

Lizibet · 13/07/2017 21:02

Autumnal, my DC1 (and my FIL) is Valentino. I absolutely adore the name and luckily it's one of the few that go with my DHs surname.

It also shortens to Tino which is adorable when they're wee but more practical than Valentino when they're bigger.

MrsMooks · 13/07/2017 21:04

My DS has Valentine as a middle name after his grandfather. I love it!

Wilhelminaaa · 13/07/2017 21:32

Valentina is one of my most loved names. I like the nickname Leni.

Sophia Valentina sounds a bit off as they both end in the same vowel.

I prefer Sophie to Sophia.

Araminta is too much for me. It sounds very posh, as it makes me think of 'aristrocrat' and 'minted (as in loaded)'.

Arabella is very nice. She will get Bella a lot.

Percy makes me think of the Weasley from HP, so no from me.

Valentine... I think this is a strong name and I do like it, but I think he would be teased about Valentine's Day, more so than a lass called Valentina.

George is sturdy.
