Evamarie or Aisling?

Currently pregnant with baba number 2 and me and DH are are currently sifting through baby names. We have a 1 year old Leo, and we're only 5 weeks pregnant so still early days before we know the sex but if it's a boy we've settled on Sam, just need a girls name now! It's between Evamarie (one name) and Aisling, pronounced Ash-ling (DH is Irish). Really like both names but can't choose so some opinions could really help if possible. Brianne/Brianna isn't out of the mix either. Thank you xx

Thanks for the input so far everyone! DH really likes Aisling. Hubby also mentioned Siobhan (sha-vonne). And Dearbhla (Dervla). Goodness the Irish love their complicated spellings! xx

I quite like Dearbhla. I'm not mad about Siobhan tbh, but no particular reason for that.

Have you considered any of these?:

Saoirse (Seer-sha)
Sorcha (Sur-a-ka)
Roise (Row-sha)
Blathnaid (Blaw-nid)

27Harper · 07/07/2017 22:00

Saoirse is a lovely name, but unfortunately someone ruined it for me since she is a complete and utter c word xx

You can say cunt the actual c word op! This is mumsnet after all Wink. We swear freely here (thank fuck) Smile.

Shame about Saoirse though! It is a lovely name.

27Harper · 07/07/2017 22:04

Haha some people tell me off for swearing too much! I try to keep it to a minimum occasionally Halo xx

I think Evamarie is nicer than Eva-Marie, but Aisling is such a beautiful name and I'd go for that

They have a similar feel. And she'd have equal problems with spelling/pronunciation ("no as one word" - "no it's ash-") so I wouldn't let that bother you

HeteronormativeHaybales · 07/07/2017 23:12

Aisling is nice, and Roise as suggested by a pp is lovely.
Don't do Evamarie. How about Mary? Would go well with Leo, is simple and underused.

WillRikersExtraNipple · 07/07/2017 23:14

She pronounces herb name as Ash-ling although can be pronounced aze-ling

It can bloody not!

WillRikersExtraNipple · 07/07/2017 23:15

Goodness the Irish love their complicated spellings!

They aren't complicated at all, they are just in IRISH.

27Harper · 07/07/2017 23:18

Twas just a joke my dear x

Had a foster mum for 3 months as Mary due to a misunderstanding. She was an absolutely awful human being. Kinda ruins the name for me a tad xx

Eilidh is Scottish rather than Irish. Pretty name but not Irish.

petitesassygirl · 08/07/2017 06:26

Elildh Scottish? Well it's Gaelic , but ....

Like Eva

Don't like Aishling

FinallyThroughTheRoof · 08/07/2017 07:03

Evamarie is dreadful..sorry

Decaffstilltastesweird · 08/07/2017 07:43

Eilidh isn't Irish, or at least, I've never heard of it in Ireland. It is really pretty though. I love Scottish names.

FinallyThroughTheRoof · 08/07/2017 07:59

Agreed, it's Scottish. Eilis is Irish

SuperBeagle · 08/07/2017 08:10

Eva Marie, like Eva Marie Saint. Evamarie is a mess.

Aisling is fine. I prefer it to Eva Marie.

Herbpatch · 08/07/2017 08:15

Siobhán is not Sha-vonne! It's more or less Shuv-AWN, and you need the fada on the 'a'. And Aisling is never Ayz-ling.

Dlpdep · 08/07/2017 08:32

Ronaldo just called one of his twins Eva-Maria, if that would be a concern.

No its not the same language Hmm

27Harper · 08/07/2017 14:25

I know that Eilidh is Scottish. I'm scottish and my husband is Irish that's why I though it was a nice combo xx

I though Siobhan was pronounce SHIVawn. Not Sigh O-ban, Shivonne etc.
