Evamarie or Aisling?

Currently pregnant with baba number 2 and me and DH are are currently sifting through baby names. We have a 1 year old Leo, and we're only 5 weeks pregnant so still early days before we know the sex but if it's a boy we've settled on Sam, just need a girls name now! It's between Evamarie (one name) and Aisling, pronounced Ash-ling (DH is Irish). Really like both names but can't choose so some opinions could really help if possible. Brianne/Brianna isn't out of the mix either. Thank you xx

Aisling definitely, and Elona sounds fine with it, though I've never heard the name before.

SerfTerf · 07/07/2017 10:56

No, sorry, I'm not seeing the benefit of the unique spelling. Why do you think the spelling needs "improving" ?

CabernetSauvignyoni · 07/07/2017 10:58

Aisling every time. Congrats!

tabulahrasa · 07/07/2017 11:24

"@tabulahrasa that's odd I've only heard it pronounced Ash ling. Definitely how it's pronounced in Ireland but I guess it depends on how you wish to pronounce it"

Well I always wondered where the g went to, but I'm not Irish or in Ireland so I never asked them, lol

27Harper · 07/07/2017 11:37

@SerfTerf I don't think that the spelling needs "improving". It's not a big deal don't see why you're so unhappy with it. The spelling was just a suggestion, that's why I posted the question

I'm just curious about why people do the "unique spelling" thing. You seemed like a good person to ask Smile

Decaffstilltastesweird · 07/07/2017 11:50

I think it's Ash-leen in Ulster? Not sure though, it's just that I know an aisling from Ulster who pronounces it that way.

MammieBear · 07/07/2017 11:55

Evamarie is a name completely with you on that, that would also be the one to get my vote its lovely, unique and goes well with Brother Leo. People are so used to ruby- rose that sort of thing that they forget the original compound names like Annamarie, Rosemarie, Evamarie is a good choice. Smile

27Harper · 07/07/2017 12:00

@SerfTerf like MammieBear said I just like the compound element of it xx

Also really liking the Aisling Eilidh combination! xx

Decaffstilltastesweird · 07/07/2017 12:17

Aisling Eilidh is really pretty! Love it.

27Harper · 07/07/2017 12:21

@Decaffstilltastesweird thank you! xx

I always thought Aisling was ash-lin so you may encounter difficulties with pronounciation

Evamarie seems a bit much a looks wrong mashed together Eva Marie would be better but I'm still not a fan.

I really like Marie on its own though

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 07/07/2017 12:34

I'm in NI and know a few Aislings and they all pronounce it Ash-leen. Beautiful name!! I like Eva too. Aoife is an Irish name that sounds very similar!!!

MikeUniformMike · 07/07/2017 12:34

Evamarie is just wrong.

fannydaggerz · 07/07/2017 12:39

Aisling is a beautiful name.

I know a girl called that.

She pronounces herb name as Ash-ling although can be pronounced aze-ling.

27Harper · 07/07/2017 12:39

Ok, there's clearly a good amount of people here that think the spelling of Evamarie doesn't look right, so how about Eva-Marie? xx

OP posts:
MammieBear · 07/07/2017 12:46

You go with what you want don't change just because people your not going to meet on a forum don't agree with you, it's your baby and your choice personally if you don't want to go with evamarie (which is a perfectly acceptable name just not common) then go with Eva Marie no hyphen though really don't get them. Evamarie means life, wished for child lovely meaning. Smile

Lemondrop99 · 07/07/2017 12:50

I'm not sure where all the negativity on Evamarie is coming from. Looks like a proper name to me and I think it's quite pretty. I strongly dislike hyphens so MUCH prefer Evamarie and Eva-Marie.

Aisling Eilidh is lovely too

27Harper · 07/07/2017 12:52

@MammieBear I know such a pretty meaning! I know that ultimately it's my choice and no one else (well except DH), It's just that a few people were more concerned on the spelling of the name and not the actual name and giving their opinions. I think it's an acceptable spelling too xx

Love Aisling. Nice patriotic name it is too!

27Harper · 07/07/2017 13:10

@MossytheMouse lol DH wants people to know she's Irish. I guess Leo isn't very Irishy xx

BendydickCuminsnatch · 07/07/2017 13:44

Aisling!!! I looooove it, you're lucky to have Irish connections in order to use it Smile

27Harper · 07/07/2017 14:02

Thanks hun! I would probably still use it even if he wasn't Irish, after all, neither of use are Portuguese but we still had little Leonardo haha xx

OP posts:
AgentCooper · 07/07/2017 14:09

27 Leo is a bit more Irishy now, with the new Taoiseach! Wink

I love Aisling. All the Aislings I know pronounce it Ash-LING but they're all from ROI. And I kind of love Evamarie too, I have to say. Eilis is gorgeous too.
