For some personal reason, we want to change our 3 year old DS's name from single to hyphenated from rohan to sree-rohan. The reasons are purely religious. It may sound silly but we have pressure building up from our parents to change the name that starts with "S" whereas we love to call him Rohan and he's lived with that name for 3 years. We don't want people to start calling him "Sree-Rohan".
Can we specify "preferred" name as "Rohan"? I am not sure how this will work at school?

I'm not sure I completely understand your post? Do you not want to change it? Anyway, yes on school forms their is a 'preferred name' section so if you want him to be known as Rohan that wouldn't be a problem. Is it just going to be an 'official' name that isn't used? X

Rohan is such a wonderful name. I absolutely love it.

I think that it would be fine for him to continue to be known as that, even if it was officially changed. But give it some more thought as you really don't sound like you want to. I know it's easy for me, a random stranger on the internet to say, but your son is for you and your husband to name - not your parents. Good luck!

Yes you can have him known as just Rohan

You should only change it if you and DH actually want to though, not just because your parents want it.

Rohan is lovely btw

thank you all :) yeah I am not interested at all as you rightly noticed, but DH is more inclined than me (he's superstitious !). Right, I have battle to fight ahead then. ;)

I wouldn't hyphenate it, to be honest. Makes form-filling unnecessarily difficult. Change his name to Sree Rohan but still have Rohan as his preferred name.
