What are your thoughts on the name Snow (for a middle name)?

Fine as long as your surname isn't Mann, White, Plough, Drift, etc.

Justhadmyhaircut · 03/07/2017 08:16

Bullied childhood springs to mind. .

Decaffstilltastesweird · 03/07/2017 09:01

I actually love this! Probably wouldn't use it as a first name, but love it as a middle name. I also love Rain and Star.

RodeoDriveBaby · 03/07/2017 09:02

It's heinous IMO.

But your baby your choice!!

stumblymonkeyagain · 03/07/2017 09:13

I don't agree that children with unusual middle names get bullied. Who knows people's middle names?

I like it but you're going to be asked a lot if there's some relevance? Is there?

Personally I like unusual middle names, I'm considering Wilding as a middle name for my DD (from Emily Wilding Davison the suffragette).

I also like nature names...like you said we use a lot of nature names already...Summer, Rowan, Ivy, Robin, Violet, etc.

RodeoDriveBaby · 03/07/2017 09:19

Also I'm biased as I have a hippy name (think Rain) and it's the bane of my life.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 03/07/2017 09:32

I like Madeleine Snow, it's lovely, but only as a middle name.

Decaffstilltastesweird · 03/07/2017 09:34

Poor you rodeo! I wouldn't use as a first name for that reason. I feel you really hate it, have you considered changing it by drool? My cousin did this as an adult and, though it was hard to get used to at first, the 'new' name has been her name now for about 15 years and it's no problem.

Decaffstilltastesweird · 03/07/2017 09:36

*deed poll ffs! Blush

Mulch · 03/07/2017 09:36

I just hear Jon snow in a strong Yorkshire accent

RodeoDriveBaby · 03/07/2017 09:44

decaf I don't feel I can really, even though I don't like it that's my name IYSWIM.

Also it would break my mum's heart and I love and adore my mum

My middle name is hippy too!!

LostWithoutALight · 03/07/2017 09:52

I wanted the same thing op! I loved it but I got so much flack over it that it just wasn't worth it in the end. It got on my nerves and I only told people during the second half of pregnancy, so I could only imagine how annoyed my dd would get with a lifetime of people's smirks and comments whenever she had to use her full name. Didn't seem fair. sad She was born during the only week we had snow in our area too! I couldn't even have anticipated that.

Honestly I've heard worse names but there you go. I did pick a beautiful less alternative name in the end so it all worked out.

rodeo so sorry you dislike your name but can I just say you sound like a lovely daughter Smile

MineKraftCheese · 03/07/2017 09:57

Too Game of Thrones and also makes me think of "special snowflakes".

Snowdrop could possibly work as a middle name?

MikeUniformMike · 03/07/2017 14:53

FWIW, the pronunciation of Eira is close to AY-rah (ay as in may) not Ira.

FruitTwist2017 · 03/07/2017 14:55

I really like Madeleine Snow. Go for it!

Scrumpernickel · 03/07/2017 16:21

'licky boom boom' was my first thought too Grin

DeepPuddleHorse22 · 03/07/2017 16:28

MikeUniformMike we pronounce it Eye-ra in South Wales and the same in West Wales. Are you Welsh? (Interest-not rude!)

DeepPuddleHorse22 · 03/07/2017 16:29

Oh and I like Snow-who gets bullied for their middle names? They are barely ever used and aren't on registers in schools or anything

RiverTam · 03/07/2017 16:32

Oh, I actually think it looks quite daft as a middle name like that. Either go for it properly as a first name or leave it. Though I must admit my first thought was President Snow (Hunger Games). Equally, I do like nature names a lot, haven't seen this one before.

Choccyhobnob · 03/07/2017 16:34

I actually like it but like a pp has said I was going to suggest Nieve which is Spanish for Snow.

WingMirrorSpider · 03/07/2017 16:38

I like fairly boring traditional names, but I think Madeleine Snow sounds lovely.

MrsRaymondReddington · 03/07/2017 16:50

I like it! My DD has a weather related middle name and it sounds lovely with her first name.

BikeRunSki · 03/07/2017 19:42

Hmmm not sure
Nieve is the Spanish word for snow, and also a name.

BikeRunSki · 03/07/2017 19:42

X post several !

KatherinaMinola · 03/07/2017 19:50

Madeleine Snow is lovely. I would assume it was a surname used as a middle name (eg mother's maiden name) but that wouldn't bother me. I've known lots of people with surnames as middle names - usually would-be aristocratic types!
