What are your thoughts on the name Snow (for a middle name)?

Boy or a girl?

I can't help remembering that it was the name of Robin Gibb's lovechild.

Other than that, I'm surprised I don't like it more because I really favour nature names. It's just a bit, I don't know, bland, maybe?

RightAreYouSure · 03/07/2017 00:30

For a girl :)

man?

SerfTerf · 03/07/2017 00:33

Middle name is different to first name, though. Maybe it's one of those names that is pretty as a middle name but unforgivable as a first name?

MsPassepartout · 03/07/2017 00:33

I can't get away from the Snow White association.

But you can get away with just about anything for a middle name.

NuffSaidSam · 03/07/2017 00:33

It's a snow from me.

FidgetSpinner · 03/07/2017 00:35

I like it.

CherriesInTheSnow · 03/07/2017 00:37

For me it's a name Blue that I love in theory but wouldn't use myself - but it would also entirely depend on the first name.

If it's an elegant and more traditional name with Snow as a middle name, you could pull it off I reckon.

If it's a more faddy name it can end up sounding a bit... tacky :(

Lemondrop99 · 03/07/2017 00:40

I'm not sure. It makes me think either Snow White, or Snow is the name for a bastard northern child in Game of Thrones 😕

That said, it's not awful as a middle name. What about Winter? I know a little girl who has tw middle names - Winter Rose, which I think it really pretty.

Flippingecktucker · 03/07/2017 00:42

Cherries is right. Sarah/Alex/Charlotte Snow, lovely. Harper/Indigo/Blue Snow, try-hard.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 03/07/2017 00:43

Nope. Snow is a weather condition, not a name.

RightAreYouSure · 03/07/2017 00:45

It would be Madeleine Snow.

@WhatToDoAboutThis2017 - do you not agree with the names Violet, Summer, Scarlett, Grace, Melody, etc.?

OP posts:
theconstantinoplegardener · 03/07/2017 00:48

How about Nieve? It's Spanish for snow, so the meaning is the same but it sounds a bit more...name-like (to me!).

Topseyt · 03/07/2017 00:49

To me it is winter weather and perhaps also occasionally a surname. I wouldn't personally use it any other way though.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 03/07/2017 00:50

I'm not a fan of names that are descriptions of things like colours, weather conditions and so on.

A few on the list you just mentioned are long established names. Snow is not.

You may as well just name your kid "car" or "train" or "ice" or something else completely random Confused (And yes, unless you literally conceived her in actual snow, it IS random).

Madeline, however, is a beautiful name Grin

Dixiestamp · 03/07/2017 01:07

I prefer Eira, Welsh for snow.

ButterfliesandMoths · 03/07/2017 01:37

Madeleine Snow sounds beautiful

NikiBabe · 03/07/2017 01:40

Snow White, Game of Thrones, Hunger Games (President Snow).

JuicyCake · 03/07/2017 01:43

Wasn't there a rapper called Snow? His song was "informer"
"Informer, do dee do do, a-licky-boom-boom-down"

NikiBabe · 03/07/2017 01:44

Jon Snow too.

It's generally a surname. To me it would look as if she had a double barrel surname rather than a middle name.

MikeUniformMike · 03/07/2017 01:44

Not if your surname is White. Use Isla instead.

hophop333 · 03/07/2017 05:45

Awful. I know anything can be a name if we wish it to be but is this seriously a name?!

Even as a middle name I would feel so ashamed to say 'my dd is called X Snow X', think you would get a lot of strange looks and stereotyping.

UsedToBeAPaxmanFan · 03/07/2017 06:11

Your child, your decision. Personally I don't like it but that's just me. I love Madeleine as a name though.

I certainly wouldn't use it though if your surname is Man, White or Storm. But I imagine you've thought of that already. Grin

ScarletSienna · 03/07/2017 06:17

I too think it will look like a surname as it is a fairly well known one.

Snow (blow) is a drug which would possibly put me off too.

Aside from that, as a middle name I think it is fine.

Saucery · 03/07/2017 06:34

I quite like it as a middle name with Madeleine. Prefer Eira though.
