I would love a middle name. I don't have one. The only saving grace was that my surname was unusual but since marrying I now have a common first and last name. Rubbish for getting email addresses and usernames etc.
Go for two.
Congrats on your impending arrival.

I have 2 middle names. I have given my DDs one middle name. For monogrammed stuff they generally do 3 initials only. Plus fitting on forms etc.

My first name and surname are also fairly long 3 syllable names. Guess it depends how long the whole name is and the number of syllable.

Two

I don't have a middle name and have never felt short changed. OH and I had agreed that our dc would be single namers, but sadly that went out of the window when much loved FIL told everyone our firstborn was called something different to what we had decided. There was nothing wrong with the name he thought we had chosen so to make him feel less guilty about his mistake we included it as a second name, and gave the other dc that followed a second name too so they didn't feel left out.
I still don't see the point of second (and third names). They're never really used and just make form filling more difficult

Yika · 01/07/2017 22:11

Two (or more).

HeteronormativeHaybales · 01/07/2017 22:17

Two.

I think it's quite sad when parents don't bother with middle names, tbh. They're lovely for marking significant people and may make life easier if a child grows to really not like his/her first name - in some places/instances it can be easier to swap to calling oneself one's middle name instead.

My three dc all have two middle names, each of which has a connection of some kind to family member or friend, and all of which are additionally lovely names. I have one middle name. Dh has none, and a short first name at that. He couldn't care less but I do find it somehow sad.

A work we have three initial stamps on the computer - so you see last user etc

Having no middle name I'm DXL - X the go to stand in - I'm not XL!! Nor am I a shipping company -

I want to be Polly Ann or Clara Jane or Deana Elsie or anything else -

I hate my name!!!!!

HeteronormativeHaybales · 01/07/2017 22:19

My brother, mind you, loathed and detested his middle name, and never ever used it or admitted to it. I think it's a bit risky to give as middle names names that you would not under any circumstances give as a first name.

noenemee · 01/07/2017 22:25

I only have one name and have always felt short changed Sad

MrsABrown72 · 01/07/2017 22:34

I have no middle name as have a double-barrelled first name, and also a confirmation name. My daughter has my mum's name as a middle name as she (mum) died shortly before she was born.

redshoeblueshoe · 01/07/2017 22:36

I have 1 and my Dsis has 3 middle names, I felt short changed until I read this, I've only just realised she has both our GM's names Blush
go for 2

redshoeblueshoe · 01/07/2017 22:38

Oh I forgot - we both have confirmation names

nemno · 01/07/2017 22:40

My sibling feels short-changed with none.

NameChange30 · 01/07/2017 22:43

I do think it's strange when parents don't give the same number of names to each of their children. Seems slightly unfair somehow.

People saying they can't see the point of middle names - I think there are two: honouring loved ones and giving the child an alternative option that they can use instead of their first name if they choose.

Aibe · 01/07/2017 22:53

I have two middle names and gave my son two too, he has a great grandad from each side 😁

MrsABrown72 · 01/07/2017 23:05

But MIL wanted me give a middle name of Vera...sorry any Vera's out there but just no. Luckily my mums name was ok so I used it and my daughter likes it.

MrsABrown72 · 01/07/2017 23:08

*to give!

Gremlinothefirst · 01/07/2017 23:30

Patulia? Julicia? Aliane or Dison? Smile

NameChange30 · 02/07/2017 04:23

Lol at Patulia or Dyson Grin
It's got to be Alicia!

Mumoftheark · 02/07/2017 07:34

Two.

My daughter has two. I never understand no middle names lol. I know there's not really a reason for them but a name doesn't seem complete without one.

Pickerel · 02/07/2017 07:42

Sorry but one is far better than either two or none!

Crunchymum · 02/07/2017 08:50

Depends massively on the names.

If both your mum's names make a nice flowing 'set' of middle names then it's fine. If baby ends up being called "first name Marjorie Gertrude" then you may need to rethink

DuggeeHugs · 02/07/2017 20:37

DS technically has two middle names, but in English it looks like three. On the plus side, because we chose the names quite carefully, he could go for an all Western or all Eastern name if he doesn't wasn't a mixed name, depending on where life takes him.
