Just that please Smile

I'm going to go against the grain and say none. I find my middle name completely pointless and when friends have babies the middle name is never ever mentioned again after the birth announcement.

HolgerDanske · 01/07/2017 19:13

Two middle names (and that's what I have Smile)

Mrsmartell08 · 01/07/2017 19:13

I've got 2
I don't mind it but never use them.

IAmALionTamer · 01/07/2017 19:16

My DS has both his Grandfathers names as middle names. We thought it the fairest solution and has been well received by both families.
DS does have a short first name though so it isn't (at least in my opinion) too much of a mouthful

RoseVase2010 · 01/07/2017 19:16

DS has two middles names and a double barrelled surname. We dropped an additional surname that has been used as a middle name for generations.

We don't want to go overboard on names now, do we?!

In regards to order we went for the order that didn't spell anything out!

RoseVase2010 · 01/07/2017 19:17

and when friends have babies the middle name is never ever mentioned again after the birth announcement

But how do you tell them off without using their full name?!

MissHavishamsleftdaffodil · 01/07/2017 19:18

Two please! It would have helped hide my (awful) first name.

RuggerHug · 01/07/2017 19:18

I have none and turned out ok with it. But if you want the 2 go for it, just know with the double barrelled surname there's no way they will get used as it will be such a mouthful.

GolyHuacamole · 01/07/2017 19:21

My DSs both have two middle names one from each family, they love it.

I have a common popular 70s 'filler' middle name which has no particular meaning apart from the fact my parents liked it. My Dad even made it into a 'younique' spelling Blush obviously ahead of his time

ScarlettDarling · 01/07/2017 19:22

I'm so surprised everyone is saying 2! I really don't see the point of middle names and didn't give my dc any. It's a none from me!

NameChange30 · 01/07/2017 19:27

Whose surname will the baby have?

If the baby will have your DH's surname, which is presumably your PILs' surname too, she will already share a name with her MIL. And surnames are much more important than middle names.

So if she's just having one middle name, it should be one from your side of the family.

However, if your DH won't agree to that, what about your DM and MIL's middle names - is there a name in common somewhere?

alpq · 01/07/2017 19:28

It's going to be double barrelled Grin

NameChange30 · 01/07/2017 19:31

Ah that's good Smile
Well in that case I personally would give one middle name or none.
We had the same debate for DS (two surnames) and came to the conclusion that five names in total would be too many.
DH didn't want to give him a middle name at all but it meant a lot to me plus I gave birth dammit so he relented Wink
To be fair his first and middle names are only one syllable each.

gandalfspants · 01/07/2017 19:34

Ooops Blush

Didn't mean to offend anyone! Maybe my surname is a bit more of a mouthful than the other double barrelled ones out there though.

NameChange30 · 01/07/2017 19:35

Could you tell us your DM and MILs first and middle names (you could mix up the order if you don't want it to be too identifiable) and maybe we could suggest some kind of merged name that incorporates a bit of one name from each?

chipscheeseandgravy · 01/07/2017 19:38

I have 2. :). I'd feel naked with none Blush

Tinseleverywhere · 01/07/2017 19:39

If you like both your dm and dmil I would do it, but if you aren't keen on one of them, either no middle name or an unrelated name.

alpq · 01/07/2017 19:40

Sure :) Julia Alison and Patricia Diane Smile

Tinseleverywhere · 01/07/2017 19:42

Haha I meant if you like their names! But I suppose my first post makes a good point too Grin

AtiaoftheJulii · 01/07/2017 19:43

Yep-3 greats. What's wrong with that?

Nothing wrong, you just said two greats and two grands and I was wondering what you actually meant.

Indulge my nosyness - how old was everyone?

BurnTheBlackSuit · 01/07/2017 19:44

Two. I have 2. Order isn't really important- like a pp said, only the first middle name on most forms. But then your second middle name is like having a secret name. Useful when you need an alter ego... after all, it is your name!

NameChange30 · 01/07/2017 19:45

Juliane! Done Grin

NameChange30 · 01/07/2017 19:46

Or Alicia

NameChange30 · 01/07/2017 19:47

I think Alicia is a lovely name actually... would it work with the first name and surnames?

SallyGinnamon · 01/07/2017 19:51

Think of the poor thing having to put their full name on an application form. If going double barrelled DEFINITELY only one name!
