Middle name for Eli

QuestionARhino · 30/06/2017 10:58

Baby due in 10ish weeks. Girls name picked and love it, boys first name picked but I can't find a single middle name I remotely like but I still want a middle name.

Any suggestions for Eli? Surname begins with W.

We don't like traditional names; unusual names run in the family, but nothing outlandish or that looks made up 😅 don't want to name after ourselves or family members... also really picky so don't be offended if I veto your suggestions Blush I'm still grateful for anyone who takes time to throw options at us! And we are set on the first name, I know it's not to everyone's taste and that's okay Smile

I know an Eli whose middle name is Valentine. I've always liked that. (And no, his birthday is not Valentine's Day.)

What girl names for you have? That might help with the kind of flavour you go for.

NameChange30 · 02/07/2017 04:44

I think you're being too picky. You're overthinking it and the search for the "perfect" name is misguided IMO. You just need to pick a name and it will become his name and you'll love it because it's his and that's that. Middle names aren't even that important anyway. And I wouldn't use a name you love too much in case you have another boy one day and want to use it as a first name!

FWIW I like to use a family name as a middle name, maybe pick one that sounds decent with Eli and be done with it?!

As PPs said, you will have 6 weeks to register the birth, but you can also easily change the first and middle names before the baby's first birthday (just not the surname) if you change your mind after you've registered it.

I find decision making is easier when you take the pressure off and allow yourself to wait and see if a choice feels right - or if a name grows on you.

I didn't love DS's first name when we first discussed it but it really grew on me and I love it now, especially now DS is here and it belongs to him Smile

QuestionARhino · 02/07/2017 08:13

@NameChange30 eh I respectfully disagree Smile middle names aren't as important but I still want one We both like.

We specifically don't want a family name, that's our preference - nothing wrong with it.

But nor am I going to pick a name that sounds right even if I don't like it. I'm sure we'll find one eventually. I'm just coming here to hear suggestions I may not have come across on the million name websites and surprisingly I have come across some, they just haven't been to my taste.

@KeiraKnightleyActsWithHerTeeth girl would be Astrid Luna W.

I know they're gaining popularity but again neither name has come through our local large A&E or Neonatal Unit where I work in the city. I also live in a pretty sleepy town that's populated by more elderly than family so I guess I'm less likely to bombarded by kids of the same name. Criteria slightly different though I guess as we didn't want an overly feminine first name. Neither name are related to family in anyway, and we happen to absolutely love both names.
