I only know of two baby Penelopes, who I am unlikely to actually meet. I know it's quite popular, which I can live with, but I'd rather avoid top 5/10 sort of names if possible.

None. Lovely name

Aedie4 · 30/06/2017 10:25

I know two under two, both go by Penny. I'm considering it if we have another girl but nn Nell

Lilmy3 · 30/06/2017 10:27

I know a couple of dogs named Penelope, but no humans

NataliaOsipova · 30/06/2017 10:28

Three. One is 8, one is 3 and one is six months. Two of them are known as Penny.

Pickerel · 30/06/2017 10:29

Two - one age 4 and one adult

zen1 · 30/06/2017 10:29

The youngest I know is early 50s. I have 2 DC still in primary school and have never heard of any children or their sibs with the name. I think it's a sweet name.

Passmethecrisps · 30/06/2017 10:30

I have a Penelope who goes by penny. We have come across one other. Teachers etc all day they have never/rarely taught one. We are in Scotland though

ChangedToday · 30/06/2017 10:39

I know two Pennys, one my aged (mid 40s) and one nearer 60. None acquainted to my pre-teen kids.

emwithme · 30/06/2017 10:42

Two, both in their late 50s.

It would be on our list for upcoming DC1 but one of them is my cousin so it's out.

WhyOhWine · 30/06/2017 10:44

I know 2 Pennys and one Penelope (nn Poppy, although just as often uses Penelope). 1 adult, 2 around age 4-7.

Gaining in popularity: this graph shows how many babies registered with a given name since '96:

One adult - she struggled as a child with people not preonoucing it properly either because they didn't know how (??? suspect she was giving them the benefit of the doubt) or deliberately to annoy her.

I wouldn't use it.

Decaffstilltastesweird · 30/06/2017 10:56

Yes, I've been on the darkgreener site, thanks. It's definitely leaped in popularity, but I can't decide if it will ever be top 10?

My sister in law's middle name is Penelope

PutThatPomBearBack · 30/06/2017 11:07

3

One lady in her 40's and two under 5's.

YesThisIsMe · 30/06/2017 11:08

It's a fairly timeless name, but like the other Greek myth names, Hermione and Persephone, it doesn't translate well internationally - pretty much nobody apart from English and Greek speakers can pronounce it. So if you're a globetrotting family you might want to think twice.

aroha77 · 30/06/2017 11:26

I know 1 who is 4

Sophronia · 30/06/2017 11:41

1 who is 2, she goes by Penny.

SuperBeagle · 30/06/2017 11:43

I know a couple of old ladies named Penny, but no clue if they're short for Penelope.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 30/06/2017 11:50

One, my mother who is 72. She was a war baby and named after HMS Penelope.

Know a couple of Pennys, both about 8, I'm not sure if their given name is Penelope though.

dancingqueen345 · 30/06/2017 11:52
