Don't even know if we're having a girl or a boy yet but what do you think of Iris if it's a girl?

I know two baby Irises. I think it's quite harsh sounding and am not a big fan. But you can't really shorten it, which is a plus for some.

BroomstickOfLove · 29/06/2017 13:34

I love it. Beautiful flower, rainbow goddess, Iris Apfel, Iris Murdoch. Beautiful, cool, unfussy.

Susiethetortoiseshellcat · 29/06/2017 13:35

Gorgeous.

sofreakingtired · 29/06/2017 13:37

I think it's really lovely. It was in my top ten when I had my DD Smile

Sophronia · 29/06/2017 13:45

Love it!

flibberdee · 29/06/2017 14:18

I know two, one pronounced Ear-iss and one pronounced Eye-riss. Both lovely, which would you go for Op? Smile

Dixiestamp · 29/06/2017 14:31

I know a baby Eirys (pronounced Iris).

NewMumSoon · 29/06/2017 14:32

Ah I'm pleased with the majority positive replies. Thank you :)

We would go for 'Eye-ris' pronunciation. With Mary as a middle name.

The lack of nn does bother me a tiny bit but I've also heard of Issy suggested as a possible nn.

Beautiful name. My absolute favourite, but unfortunately dad-of-bump has vetoed it :-(

NewMumSoon · 29/06/2017 14:37

@NotMyPenguin my favourite name, Lillian, was vetoed Sad

NotMyPenguin · 29/06/2017 14:39

Ahhhh, I love that name too!

NewMumSoon · 29/06/2017 14:42

It's so hard to find names both parents like, I think. And its such a big responsibility!!

mummyofgirls3 · 29/06/2017 14:50

It's our top name too but I'm really struggling with middle names...can anyone help!

I need two middle names (to keep pace with her older sisters). We have a short one syllable surname. I can't find anything that's pretty and not too cumbersome or overused!!! Help, I only have three weeks to decide!!

NewMumSoon · 29/06/2017 15:00

My middle name suggestions would be:

Mary (obviously!) :)
Rebecca
Elizabeth
Charlotte
Megan

It also depend what other middle name you've already got?

ElfEars · 29/06/2017 15:25

It's a really lovely name.

Emma1609 · 29/06/2017 15:29

I love iris and im not a fan of most other 'granny' names, but i think iris actually has a modern, young feel too. Very cool name.

Pretty name.

Composteleana · 29/06/2017 16:21

Love it.

Would be my first choice of girl's name because of family history significance, and as I've lost my mum her name would be second name and they go well together (it's June) but DP really dislikes it.

Composteleana · 29/06/2017 16:23

Though the nickname thing may bother me, but I don't actually think you need to designate a nickname, one will emerge naturally or not. Issy could work, or something totally different that just becomes apparent.

Justwondering1 · 29/06/2017 16:27

I have an Iris (who is 12) so obviously I love the name!

Decaffstilltastesweird · 29/06/2017 16:29

It's nice. I know one from a toddler group who must be about 4yo now.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 29/06/2017 20:29

❤️ Iris Mary.
