Is Bear really that bad?

We would love to call our child Reuben Bear, but have seen some very negative comments! Lots of people seem to be asking!

Is it really that bad? He's 4 weeks old and plan on registering him very soon.

It really wouldn't be the brightest choice to use Bear as a middle name and more so with Reuben, as others have pointed out. I don't think you're serious.

hollyisalovelyname · 26/06/2017 08:52

It looks like you are copying Cheryl Cole.
Personally I think it's awful.
Your baby - your choice.

CuntyKitchen · 26/06/2017 09:53

I don't have a problem with anyone calling their son Bear, apart from the timing would now make it look like you'd named your son after Bear Payne.

It's not the Bear part that makes them dicks, it's the combo of Bear with the surname Payne.

chipscheeseandgravy · 26/06/2017 12:05

Reuben Nicholas bear would work. But Reuben bear is a bit to similar to Rupert bear.

Personally I hate the name bear, BUT it's your child.

PastysPrincess · 26/06/2017 13:13

Some of these replies are ridiculous at best and nasty at worst.

Agree. It's all a bit hysterical. It's just a middle name!

Nope, not just a name when you spend your whole life being bullied for it.

MitzyLeFrouf · 26/06/2017 15:47

Who spends their whole life getting bullied for their middle name? Seriously.

And do 'bear in mind' that Bear won't even be unusual now that the celebs are all over it.

People need to calm down.

originalbiglymavis · 26/06/2017 16:07

Me, one of my sister's. Piss taking. Your name really can be that bad. Sadly my first name was open to rather awful sexual innuendo bullying (note not teasing) that my family were blissfully ignorant of.

So no, unless you are a pop star or a Richard Branson-alike, don't do it.

PastysPrincess · 26/06/2017 17:26

I did, thats why I said it.

MitzyLeFrouf · 26/06/2017 17:29

But you didn't say it did you? You were talking about your surname. Can't you tell the difference?

reuset · 26/06/2017 17:31

I'd say it would definitely have teasing potential if discovered at school (ex teacher), especially secondary level. I'd add another middle if you're certain you want to keep it, the second middles aren't used nearly so much (I speak from experience Grin)

reuset · 26/06/2017 17:33

What are your thoughts now, OP?

PastysPrincess · 26/06/2017 17:41

But you didn't say it did you? You were talking about your surname. Can't you tell the difference?

Of course I can tell the difference Confused do you really think it will matter if it's a surname or a middle name to kids at school; they'll take the mick nonetheless when it gets found out.

Sophronia · 26/06/2017 17:47

Nicholas Bear sounds like "knickerless bare" Grin

MitzyLeFrouf · 26/06/2017 17:50

Such drama.

Yes Bear is a silly name but no, Bear as a middle name is not going to condemn him to a life of torment. It's mentioned on here fairly often as a nickname for Edward, it's being used by celebs for their offspring, therefore it's clearly on the rise. And what about people with the surname Bear? Do they get the piss ripped out of them day in and day out? I doubt it.

PastysPrincess · 26/06/2017 17:52

Well all I can say is that my experience is that I got the piss taken out of me day in and day out for my name. Just talking from my experience.

Floggingmolly · 26/06/2017 17:56

It's a ridiculous name. There was a thread on here quite recently; the op had a ds with a perfectly normal name, but was planning on telling the school to call him Bear Confused
It's a Z List special, nobody in their right mind would have considered it before Jamie Oliver and the Tweedy one used it. Bear Grylls' real name is Edward.

PastysPrincess · 26/06/2017 17:56

@Sophronia
Grin knickerless bare

Well spotted Grin

Hulababy · 26/06/2017 18:18

Its a middle name. I think you can pretty much choose what you like for a middle name, so long as not offensive. Its not like people use their middle names very much - cant remember last time I put my middle name down anyway. You don't even use them for booking a flight these days.

originalbiglymavis · 26/06/2017 18:31

I had to confirm mine with the head of accounts only last week.

Maman79 · 26/06/2017 19:37

What about changing the first name to ...

Paddington?
Teddy?
Yogi?

Maman79 · 26/06/2017 19:43

on the plus side, I suppose everyone will know his name Wink

sidonie1 · 26/06/2017 19:53

Can see the cuteness factor but I think you might regret it.
