Hiya, we really love the name Emil Isaac and wondered if we could use it? We have no French connections at all.

Pourquoi pas? Grin

Yes, if you want it pronounced Emeel to rhyme with seal then maybe add an e (Emile) or else it will be pronounced as Emil to rhyme with mill.

FreeNiki · 23/06/2017 19:55

I know a German Emil

Piratesandpants · 23/06/2017 19:59

Of course you can. Emil isn't even A French name. Emile is though.

MikeUniformMike · 23/06/2017 20:02

It's not French. The French for is Emile.
It's pronounced Em-il. Use Emile to get the Em-EEL pronunciation. Love Emil.

Borttagen · 23/06/2017 20:13

It's really popular here in Sweden. Astrid Lindgren, author of Pippi Longstocking, had another series of books about a boy called Emil.

HoratioNightboy · 23/06/2017 20:43

I thought Emil was the English version, and the French one Emile. Pronounced as MidnightVelvet described. I know one, whose parents chose it for that reason.

Love it! Definitely use it Grin

Muumi3 · 23/06/2017 21:15

Of all the Emils I've met, none have been French

Xmasbaby11 · 23/06/2017 21:15

I love it! Use it!

bridgetreilly · 23/06/2017 22:01

If you were French, he'd be Emile.
If you want to call him Emil, you can, but personally, I don't love it.

Boopboopboop · 23/06/2017 22:03

Lovely name, doesn't sound particularly French to me

danTDM · 23/06/2017 22:09

Not French, also not English, so if you are English... odd.

Sophronia · 23/06/2017 22:26

The only Emil I know is German

Unadon · 25/06/2017 02:40

I know two Emils - one Danish, one German!

grufallosfriend · 25/06/2017 07:20

Emil is German

Émile is French

PavoReal · 25/06/2017 10:10

Do it! My daughter has a French name and whilst I've yet to meet another girl with her name in the U.K. it's a top 10 name in Germany. I have no French connections and I imagine all of those in Germany who have used it probably don't either.

BlackbirdSingsInTheDeadOfNight · 25/06/2017 11:43

I know a South African Emil and they pronounce it Emeel. Lovely name.
