She's 28 hours old to be exact Wink and thought one would just pop out when we met her but we were wrong Grin

Our list:

  • Autumn (she was conceived in Autumn - which is a great connection for the name! As I suppose some people think it's twee if born and some people don't get it if not!)
  • Daisy
  • Grace
  • Ivy (it's funny, I love the sound and meaning but hate the way it looks!)
  • Madison (love Maddie and love this name but lots of people hate it SadSad not keen on Madeleine or just Maddie)
  • Olivia (I know the others could be considered popular, but Olivia is taking it to a whole new level!)
  • Violet

Thank you ❤️

I like Ivy best or Grace

Madison and Autumn are my least favourites

TabbyTurmoil · 18/06/2017 22:10

OP if we had a beautiful surname like yours I'd totally be shooting for a movie star name... Rita Roselle sounds v glamorous to me.

Of your list, I like Olivia and Grace best, both alone and with your name.

I also second the comments about the classiness of arguing the toss about a dubious word like "chavvy" with a brand new mother in relation to her infant's name.

ABitOTT · 18/06/2017 22:15

Congratulations OP on the arrival of your baby girl!Smile

I don't think popularity of a name should stop you choosing it. If Olivia is your preferred name then you go for it. Again if Madison is your favoured name, it really doesn't matter what a few people on a forum say? That said, you did ask for opinions so you've got to be prepared for ones you don't like. I quite like Madison myself yet really, really dislike Ivy because it sounds harsh to my ear. Favoured name from your list is Olivia but Violet or Daisy sound equally fabulous with your last name.

Let us know what you choose.

LiveLongAndProspero · 18/06/2017 22:18

Madison is hideous but its been in at least 10 threads this week so must be having a resurgence since its hideous 90's heights.
Ivy or Violet are a million times better.

ifcatscouldtalk · 18/06/2017 22:21

I love the name autumn. I quite like April too. Good luck deciding and congratulations!

Ojoj1974 · 18/06/2017 22:24

I don't like any of them really.
Any others up your sleeve?

TheWeeWitch · 18/06/2017 22:26

I love Ivy and Violet.

Have you considered Olive? It's a less popular - and I think altogether nicer - alternative to Olivia.

FuzzyOwl · 18/06/2017 22:33

Congratulations on the birth of your daughter. I always assumed naming a child would be quite straightforward, until I became a parent!

I like the names Violet and Olivia best of all and despite their popularity, I don't know any babies or children with either name, despite attending half a dozen baby/toddler groups each week with an eight month old and two year old.

pilates · 18/06/2017 22:35

Violet, strongly dislike Ivy

sticklebrix · 18/06/2017 22:37

Autumn or Ivy! Both lovely.

Congrats OP.

junebirthdaygirl · 18/06/2017 22:42

I think Olive Roselle is lovely as is Olivia Roselle

LexieLulu · 18/06/2017 22:46

I love Ivy, it's also one that won't be shortened or changed.

Madison was also a name I loved when I was younger, and always thought I would name my child it, but never did for some reason.

ButterfliesandMoths · 18/06/2017 22:50

My top 3 are Autumn, Ivy and Grace. I quite like Violet as well Smile

Murine · 18/06/2017 23:01

Congratulations! Fantastic list, I love Violet, Daisy and Ivy: if made to pick a favourite Id go for Violet Olivia.

SequinsOnEverything · 18/06/2017 23:03

Autumn. I love it!

Buntysoven · 19/06/2017 01:08

Daisy Roselle sounds really pretty to me. The Daisy I know is a bright tough little cookie so doesn't seem twee.

mathanxiety · 19/06/2017 01:49

I think Olivia goes best with your surname. I think it's a lovely name. Sometimes a name is really popular for a reason...

Olivia also offers the potential of several nice nicknames.

From your list, the only other names I like are Ivy and Grace. I think they both go with your surname.

The other names sound a bit harsh imo.

SomeOtherFuckers · 19/06/2017 03:38

Love autumn, violet and Ivy

Hate grace

SomeOtherFuckers · 19/06/2017 03:45

Omg Violet Roselle is beautifulllll

TheGrumpySquirrel · 19/06/2017 07:46

Livia?

photographyaddict · 19/06/2017 07:57

Ivy is lovely, it makes me think of Poison Ivy from DC so that's a positive connection Smile

myusernameisnotmyusername · 19/06/2017 21:56

Grace is my favourite (was going to be my DD's name for years but I went for another at the last minute). I also like Violet. I know a great kid called Violet.

blahthisistoohard · 20/06/2017 08:01

Ivy would be my preference, if you don't like how it looks you could always go with Ivie?

I agree with PP that Madison sounds common, and too American to me, sorry.

Olivia I think you have discounted yourself!

Sorry I know they are really popular, especially on MN but I really cannot stand Violet (sounds like 'Violent') or Grace, an irrational hated for the latter especially.

Mothervulva · 20/06/2017 08:04

Grace

marmitecrumpets · 20/06/2017 08:21

Ivy or Violet
