She's 28 hours old to be exact Wink and thought one would just pop out when we met her but we were wrong Grin

Our list:

  • Autumn (she was conceived in Autumn - which is a great connection for the name! As I suppose some people think it's twee if born and some people don't get it if not!)
  • Daisy
  • Grace
  • Ivy (it's funny, I love the sound and meaning but hate the way it looks!)
  • Madison (love Maddie and love this name but lots of people hate it SadSad not keen on Madeleine or just Maddie)
  • Olivia (I know the others could be considered popular, but Olivia is taking it to a whole new level!)
  • Violet

Thank you ❤️

They are all in quite different styles!

Err... none of them stand out, sorry! Olivia and Grace are so popular that you may as well call her Baby 34791.

Violet is quite trendy at the moment. I've heard of a few and it seems to have come from nowhere. I'm not keen - it's quite harsh and unpretty when you say it, too close to violent. But yes the latest in the retro names craze. And it doesn't go with your surname.

The idea of Ivy is great - old fashioned, quirky, not too popular, flower name. But I agree - it's also a bit of an ugly word!

Madison and Autumn - both kind of naff, sorry. They sound a bit 'trying hard to be different' but from about a decade ago. That's possibly unfair! I don't actually know any. So if you totally love one of those names then maybe go for it (tho again, neither go with your surname).

Daisy - ok. Quite dull.

As they are such a mixed bag, maybe some new suggestions would be good too?

Instead of Ivy I would choose Iris.
Instead of Autumn, Aurelia.
Maggie instead of Maddie? Far cooler. (Margot, Margaret, Margeurite). Or Annie? (lots of long names which shorten to this)

Good luck!

Violet
Madison
Ivy
My favourites

leghoul · 18/06/2017 17:40

I love love the names Margot and Iris though

leghoul · 18/06/2017 17:40

Autumn is a bit weird if she's born in June. I wouldn't want to be named after the date or location of conception.

AmysTiara · 18/06/2017 17:42

I like Autumn and Violet.

Not fussed on Madison and I agree that Olivia is far too common.

leghoul · 18/06/2017 17:43

Having seen your surname, I think Violet & other flower names would be a bit weird with it
Ivy would still work though I think

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 18/06/2017 17:50

Lovely surname OP ! 😀

NannyRed · 18/06/2017 17:58

Give it a little time, one day you'll look at her and know her name. My middle daughter was to be Alexandra but I was holding her in my arms when someone asked her name and Amy came out. I didn't even know any Amy's so never knew where it came from, but it suited her more than Alex.
Ps I love Daisy and Grace.

HopefulMog · 18/06/2017 18:00

Madeleine nn Maddie

madison sounds like medicine.

Not keen on autumn but don't know why as its my favourite season. Would summer works seeing that she is born during a heatwave?

HopefulMog · 18/06/2017 18:02

not Madeline with your surname

Grace Roselle
Olivia Roselle
Autumn Roselle
Congrats

greendale17 · 18/06/2017 18:02

Hate Madison, Daisy and Grace

Either Ivy, Olivia or Violet

lizzieoak · 18/06/2017 18:05

Hate Madison - it sounds masculine/a town in Wisconsin to me.

Like Daisy, Grace and Violet best.

TooHotWishingForWinter · 18/06/2017 18:05

@HopefulMog I already said I don't like Madeleine in my OP but why not with my surname?

Ivy or Grace or Violet. I love Ivy.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 18/06/2017 18:19

Hmm, what lovely things to say to a lady who only gave birth yesterday Hmm

I don't use the word 'chavvy' but if I did it would be to say that the PERSON indicates whether they are 'chavvy' or not, not their name. You can have a 'chavvy' Daisy just as you can have a 'chavvy' Olivia, just as you can have a 'chavvy' Madison FFS.

I vote for Violet, and congratulations!

HopefulMog · 18/06/2017 18:19

Madeleine Roselle It's a bit of a toungue twister because of MaDELEine and RosELLE. too many Ls and Es. Also it sounds almost like Mademoiselle Roselle to me for some weird reason.

You have a beautiful surname and I think my favourite is Grace or Olivia Roselle.

FizzyGreenWater · 18/06/2017 18:20

I think it might be that you have quite a long flowery 'girl-name' sounding surname and so a similarly long girly name sounds a bit much.

Madeleine Roselle just sounds way OTT, like a doll or something.

Madison Roselle bit porn star, sorry.

A short name would work best.

Anna Roselle
Iris Roselle
Tara Roselle

etc.

diddl · 18/06/2017 18:40

I like Ivy & Violet best.

June or Juno??Grin

Boulshired · 18/06/2017 18:41

My mothers name was Violet, but it sounded really harsh with our local northern tone and everyone called he Vi which was hideous. Her middle name was Iris both would be trendy now. I like Grace but is popular round here.

howthelightgetsin · 18/06/2017 18:45

I know Olivia is stupidly popular but I really love it as a name. That and Grace.

FizzyGreenWater · 18/06/2017 18:58

See I love Juno but that's another one which is not right with Roselle!

Juno Roselle

The 'no' right next to the 'ro' doesn't work.

OP you have a lovely surname but it's a tricky one to fit with a first name.

TheOldLandmark · 18/06/2017 19:20

August Rosselle

diddl · 18/06/2017 20:29

"See I love Juno but that's another one which is not right with Roselle!"

In your opinion.

I think that it's great.

FizzyGreenWater · 18/06/2017 20:31

Yup fair point! All super subjective.

THirdEeye · 18/06/2017 20:43

I like Autumn and Ivy. How is Autumn chavvy.....?

Grace/Daisy/Olivia and even Madeline are very very common where I live that would put me off
