We absolutely love a name that's seen as 'chavvy' would it be wrong of us to 'saddle' our child with it?

Remy, you asked for opinions on a baby names opinions board. Someone (quite reasonably, because it gives proper context and the full sound) asked what the surname is. You told them. You didn't have to. I'm very confused at what you thought would happen next if not opinions on the whole name.

And fwiw, I'm in the camp of not using Hayden with Meadows, regardless of any socioeconomic aspect. You're saddling him with a lifetime of raised eyebrows and mickey-taking - if he's lucky, only behind his back. There are names I absolutely adore but can't reasonably use for similar reasons bc it's not about me, it's about my child and their life beyond newborn days.

Not keen on Hayden at all and there are 3 in DD's nursery. Really like Haydn (pronounced high-den) but wouldn't use it what with Hayden being so popular, reckon it would cause confusion.

Agree with PP's about Hayden Meadows. Makes me think of farms!

No, Haydn is an old name. I'd class it as old fashioned Welsh but it's possibly not.

Hayden seems the mod spelling, maybe just not spell it like that?

FizzyGreenWater · 18/06/2017 18:28

Ahh just seen that your surname is Meadows! No, I wouldn't go for Haydn then. That's a bit much.

ShinyGirl · 18/06/2017 18:34

You're the one who mentioned chavvy, so surely you know what it means?

Jayden is nice.

ShuttyTown · 18/06/2017 18:46

My nephew is a Hayden, he's top of all of his classes, is a popular, kind, un-chavvy boy. I never knew it was thought of as a chavvy name until I joined MN!

disastrousflapjack · 19/06/2017 22:44

Tell everyone you named him in honour of Franz Joseph Haydn the famous classical composer. Anyone named after a leading classical composer can't possibly be in possession of a chavy name :) Go for it.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 19/06/2017 23:19

"He's the of all his class".
I didn't think teachers were allowed to discuss class places, so How do you know your nephew is the brightest star in the sky.
Coming top and bottom of the class to the best of my knowledge stopped in the 80s.

What a beautiful surname! So pretty; I adore it.

But no... Hayden does not go well with it! It sounds like a farm Grin "Hello and welcome to Hayden Meadows!"
