We absolutely love a name that's seen as 'chavvy' would it be wrong of us to 'saddle' our child with it?

Jayden Meadows is nice op! Go for it. Definitely prefer it to Hayden Meadows, though I prefer Hayden slightly as a name.

BrutusMcDogface · 17/06/2017 22:21

Hayden is nice, and Hayden meadows is fine! Though I guess other kids might rib him for it....

Jayden etc are "chavvy " imo, but so what! If you like it, use it.

chinlop · 17/06/2017 22:22

I wouldn't listen to what anyone else says tbh. Do what you feel is best.

MrsJayy · 17/06/2017 22:22

I know a few Hayden nice little boys call your son what you like honestly i can't be doing oh it is chavvy bull shit. I read a few pages back somebody thinks Ryan is a chavvy name Hmm

BrutusMcDogface · 17/06/2017 22:22

How about Jay? (Totally different to Hayden but I quite like it as a name!😊)

frenboop · 17/06/2017 22:22

I know two Haydns. It's a nice name Imo, but not spelt Hayden and not with the surname meadows.

AssassinatedBeauty · 17/06/2017 22:22

Yeah I'm an idiot @SoupDragon, just here to make you feel superior...

I said that, to me, Hayden is a Welsh name. I said that it's lumped in with the newish or popular names Jayden/Caidan/Aidan because it sounds like them. Aidan is popular, clearly, but not new. It's Irish and old as you know.

DumbledoresApprentice · 17/06/2017 22:23

I think Hayden Meadows is a great name. It works for a little boy but is also a good grown-up name.

SoupDragon · 17/06/2017 22:23

Hayden is far better than Jayden.

BrutusMcDogface · 17/06/2017 22:23

Ps if I had the lovely surname of meadows, i would have to call my dd summer, hehe! Few things are more beautiful than a summer meadow! Smile

Decaffstilltastesweird · 17/06/2017 22:23

MrsJayy

I've heard James and Daniel called 'a bit chavvy'. Jesus wept!

Scrumpernickel · 17/06/2017 22:23

Hayden is a nice name that will see him through life perfectly well. Real life is not a MN baby name thread.

RemyTheHamster · 17/06/2017 22:25

Please can someone tell me what chavvy means 😩😩 I know it's clearly a bad association but what does it actually mean!?

OP posts:
MrsJayy · 17/06/2017 22:26

James chavvy WHAT 😂

SoupDragon · 17/06/2017 22:26

just here to make you feel superior...

Confused er... ok.

MrsJayy · 17/06/2017 22:27

Means you are a bit rough and dead common REMY not council house and violent as some people think

Decaffstilltastesweird · 17/06/2017 22:28

Op, just google the word 'chav' if you need to know. Though, it's not a word worth knowing too much about tbh.

PortiaCastis · 17/06/2017 22:29

Chav is a Romany word meaning boy child.
All other supposed meanings are wrong and derogatory

Malfoyy · 17/06/2017 22:30

It's a nice name but I'd spell it Haydn like the composer and pp is right it's seen as chavvy cos it rhymes with Karen, Jayden etc

MrsJayy · 17/06/2017 22:30

A little girl when i worked in a nursery in 1992 was called Hayden recently it has been a boys name

DumbledoresApprentice · 17/06/2017 22:31

Chavvy is an awful word that people use to mean "not as good as me". I hate it. There are lots of names that are considered terribly "chavvy" on here that I think are perfectly nice. I teach and often associate those names with lovely kids I've known.

RemyTheHamster · 17/06/2017 22:32

Yes but the composer didn't pronounce his name the same way I'd like it pronounced. Although I too know a Haydn pronounced Hayden, I don't think it's should be, so would be a bit weird to call my son it.

OP posts:
Scrumpernickel · 17/06/2017 22:34

Haydn sounds more like high-den so that wouldn't really work.

MaisyPops · 17/06/2017 22:35

remy
People have their own idea of what chavvy is.
In my mind being chavvy is not being poor or working class (feel that needs to be made very clear).

Chavvy to me a particular subculture. In my area, chavs tend to wear tracksuits a lot, lots of fake tan, fake nails, drawn in slug eyebrows, babies seem to be dolled up with lots of sparkles or worse the lads are paraded round in tops that promote "tough lad" stereotypes. They tend to be the ones who go to the local social club and can be found outside there with a pint from 11am and the me wander around top less the second the sun is out. There was a phase recently of some houses in that area hanging union jacks and England flags out windows (feels very much sort of EDL type). They tend to the people who get involved in loud loutish behaviour too.
