Hi, currently 25 weeks pregnant and have really been struggling to come up with names we both love! Lean towards classic/traditional names but don't want over popular...
Not finding out the sex which possibly makes it harder
Current thoughts are Henry James for a boy and Alexandra Emily for a girl
Surname is one syllable Smile

Beautiful names - not at all common. Go for it! Good luck.

stickygotstuck · 16/06/2017 10:59

Congratulations!

Both lovely. But if 'not too popular' is important for you, I'd probably not use Henry. There are 3 Henrys (and 3 Harrys) in DD's class.

I don't like Henry. James is okay, but very popular. However that doesn't alter the fact. That its a strong classic name. Same with Henry, but. Its just not to my personal taste.
I think Emily Alexandra goes better than Alexandra Emily.

SuperBeagle · 16/06/2017 12:07

Love both.

I do prefer Emily Alexandra simply for the flow of the name, though I love Alexandra more. Just be sure you like the nickname Alex because it's inevitable!

Congrats Flowers

Alexandra Emily is gorgeous. I love it

Henry James is also lovely but I do know 5 young Henry's and 2 are Henry James so if you want to avoid popular I wouldn't go for Henry

Presh88 · 16/06/2017 12:29

Thanks all for your thoughts! Didn't realise Henry was so popular to be honest but took us quite a while to agree on it...
Interesting about Emily Alexandra instead - luckily I really like Alex as a nickname so that wouldn't bother me at all but might think about swapping the names around

Henry James is the name of a very famous author if that sways you either way Smile.

I really like your choices fwiw.

grufallosfriend · 16/06/2017 14:30

Alexandra is lovely! Classic, beautiful and not widely used.

I also find Henry overused and would avoid this if you don't want too popular. There are so many lovely classic boys name outside the top 100, have a look!

grufallosfriend · 16/06/2017 14:31

Especially with James as middle name, that seems to be the standard middle name these days...!

Hersetta427 · 16/06/2017 14:57

Its funny - I live in a very white MC area where you might expect a few henry's but there is not a single Henry in either DD's or DS's year (120 kids in total).

Can't move 5 yrds without falling over a Finlay or Oscar though !

RuthB4 · 16/06/2017 16:11

Alexandra Emily is beautiful! Don't swap it around to Emily Alexandra just for the flow of it! How often will people say the two names together?! Alexandra Emily works beautifully!

Henry James is lovely, but yes, very popular.

How about -
Lawrence
Nate
Robert/Bobbly
William/Will/Billy
Simon
Gregory
Charles/Charlie
Martin
Richard/Ritchie
Michael/Mickey
Micah/Mikey
Hamish
Owen
Liam
Jonathan

RuthB4 · 16/06/2017 16:16

Or Andrew?

grufallosfriend · 16/06/2017 16:19

Anthony
Christopher
Dominic
Elliot
Frederick
Ivan
Julius
Magnus
Patrick
Quentin
Reuben
Tristan
Vincent
Xavier

Alexandra Emily is lovely, don't swap it round! Alexandra is much more unusual than Emily nowadays.

Henry James is very handsome.
