Does anyone like Maddie?

With Madeleine on the BC? Also, just a bit of advice please. Say I sign her up for swimming or whatever and they ask for her name, if you write Maddie (Madeleine) would that be okay? I really want Maddie to be her known as name until old enough for herself to decide.

Yes, I quite like it.

I have no idea re swim classes etc, but it's not like they'll ask to see her passport for things like that. I think it would only be school, doctors etc where you'd need to state her full name. Less formal things like swim classes I'm sure it would be fine to use a shortened version, though maybe someone will be along to correct me on that!

I'm not keen but if you choose it then put the full version on anything official - school, passport etc. Swimming lessons then Maddie would be fine.

I like it.

I like it.

All my dc are called by a short form of their bc names. I just write on unofficial forms such as school forms

"Theodore Smith, known as Teddy"

And on swimming lesson forms I'd just say Teddy Smith

Shesaysso · 15/06/2017 21:13

I like it

I'm not keen. I quite like Madeleine though.

I don't like Maddie. Madeleine is pretty though, but saying that I know a lot of Maddie's and have never actively thought 'I don't like that name' upon meeting them!

GinSwigmore · 15/06/2017 22:28

I like it. It used to remind me of Moonlighting (Cybill Shepherd played Madelyn but was called Maddie). Sadly now, it only reminds me of Madeleine McCann even though Kate never used it as a nickname. I would probably go for Madison.

I love Madeleine, don't really like Maddie.

MyBeautifulSquid · 16/06/2017 10:14

I like it. It's a "cool" sort of name and suits all ages

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 16/06/2017 10:16

I agree that's it's cool and suits all ages.

Chances are she'll become known as Maddie in most environments. As long as you put Madeleine down on official forms, putting Maddie on everything else should be fine :)

grufallosfriend · 16/06/2017 14:33

Sorry, but I don't like Maddie at all. It sounds like someone who is mad and not feminine to my ears at all.

Madeleine, pronounced the French way, MadeLEINE, is beautiful!
